I have a 13" MacBook, 3 years old, and my DVD/CD drive has been having issues for awhile. There have been times that discs would not eject, but I was able to get them out by sticking a thick piece of paper into the slot to help get the disc out. I have had a disc stuck in my MacBook for about a month now, I just managed to get it out yesterday, but now am unable to even put a CD in. What can I do to fix this? Will I need to take it in to get repaired? Have others had this issue? The disc runs fine when it's in the computer, I am having issues with inserting and ejecting.

Thanks!

My best guess is that its a loose connection inside the drive or the motor that receives and ejects the disk has died. Wait a couple of days and if it's still not working the motor is probably dead or permanently disconnected (you really don't want to take apart a CD drive) As I understand it it can be expensive to get a CD drive repaired or replaced by apple, maybe consider buying a cheap USB CD drive, take it to apple and see what they would charge to repair it, if it's more then you'r willing to pay a look at other companies that fix macs maybe they will offer a better price. if you use CDs a lot then it may be worth the high price.

My guess is that over the years you've "pinched" the slot closed. There isn't a lot of metal that holds that slot open, and right handed people tend to pick up the macbook with their right hand putting a LOT of pressure directly on the optical drive slot.

This is easily confirmed with a visual check, and you should be able to stick a screwdriver or two in there and let them sit overnight to bend the slot back into shape....

Or what Strong said.

Sounds like the drive is misaligned with the slot opening in the case. Try AKcrab's suggestion... carefully.
