Dear Micro$oft,

it tried to use your free 60 day demo version of the onenote application and after filling out an online form i was given this treatment

anyway, thanks but no thanks. i watched your flash demo instead. i think the interface is too cluttered and i just don't get it. Give up!! you cannot beat taking lecture notes in a notebook. you are out of your mind to try to compete against well trained writing hands that can scribble and doodle so fast that usually it keeps up pace with what is being said. as to the searching part i think if you know the material well searching is not that critical. anyway i think you have wasted your efforts in creating this app that is doomed to fail.

i found a simple alternative to what that app is trying to do.

open up ms word in your beautiful, ibook or powerbook. When the window "Project Gallery" comes up select a word notebook.

then click the button that looks like a microphone and you are set. record the lecture and type notes.

That said typing notes is so much easier than using a notebook, I type probably three times faster than I hand write. Simply because you don't like a method doesn't mean it's wrong... though it may mean you're stupid.

Simply because you can type faster doesnt mean anyone else (including your highness) should blindly adopt typing. Ever heard of something called "Shorthand"?? Since you sound brilliant you may already know this, I am guessing.

It would be cool for some software to convert a speech from sound files to the phonetic symbols of Shorthand. So, if this can be done then we can just learn to read Shorthand first instead of learning to write lecture notes this way, just thinking aloud. Now something along this line will be a nice innovation. Bill are you listening?

BTW here is some trivia

"the world record for fast writing was with the Pitman shorthand system: 350 wpm during a two-minute test by Nathan Behrin in 1922 (according to the Guinness Book of Records)."

try typing that fast. most lectures etc are spoken at around 150 wpm.

I use a Windoze machine at work every day and get TONS of incorrect and nonsensical error messages and almost never write to a Mac forum for help with them!

Please. I use a Windows box at work everyday as well, and can honestly say that I don't have anymore problems with it than I have with my Mac.

You should try loggin on once in a while. I never get any error messages until I do that and then they start right up. And I'd say that 90% of them are themselves errors... they never make any sense at all. It's like they are left over from when M$ was copying OS9.

I use windows 100% of the time at work; I use visual studio, adobe photoshop, microsoft outlook, ms sql enterprise manager, and many other programs (mostly by microsoft), and i rarely see any errors (maybe once every month or two or three). I think microsoft produces some of the most complex, user friendly programs out there. i think they rock. a lot of you are too mac-centric to see that anything else is any good, when in fact a lot of it is very good.
