The new 128MB Rio 800's are looking quite nice ($269 at Computers4Sure.com) but I'm wondering how they integrate with iTunes.
Obviously you can transfer music to the player, but can you also *play* music that's on the player through iTunes???

I don't think so.
At least not on my Rio 500.

I have a Rio 600, which is the same generation as the 800, and it works great with iTunes. I never even had to put the CD that came with the Rio in my computer. It worked with iTunes right out of the box. However, once you put songs on the Rio, you can not play them through iTunes or otherwise copy them back to the computer. This is to prevent the copying/ spreading of copyrighted materials. iTunes rules! Thanks Apple!

there is a Rio 800 plugin in the plugins folder. So the 800 is supported. The list of plugins are:
Nomad II Plugin
Nomad Jukebox Plugin
psa[play Plugin
Rio500 Plugin
Rio600 Plugin
Rio800 Plugin
Nakamichi SS2 Plugin
I'm hoping Apple will add more for the newer models that come out. Although that Rio600 is a good deal at $170, but an even better deal if you get it through the "college bound" deal at:
http://www.apple.com/education/promos/collegebound/
