Well, my personal email isn't very geeky. Just simply my [email protected].

That's pretty cool I'd have to say. Unfortunately the A in my name for @ comes very late in my name.

I was excited in 2003 or 2004 when I had a Gmail account and no one else did.

googlemail.com and gmail.com are interchangeable, AFAIK. They both arrive in the same mailbox.

Yes.

Also, posting your e-mail addresses in plaintext in a publicly searchable (and thus accessible to webcrawlers) space is a 100% sure-fire guarantee to have them utterly overrun by spam, and thus rendering them useless.

This doesn't have anything to do with OS X. I've moved it to the Lounge since this is general enough.

Lots of spambots are smart enough these days to get around measures such as that. If I were you, I'd replace your last name in the address with a placeholder such as <my last name> since the idea still comes across just as well, and then the spambots won't be able to piece it together.

Nothing worse than ruining a cool e-mail address by making it get so much spam that legitimate mail gets lost in the deluge.

Probably won’t really matter anyway… my Gmail address is made up of my first and last name, which happens to be a very very rare combination, and I’ve never ever posted it online, and yet I still get upwards of 300 spam messages per month. I think these days the one and only thing you can do is use a good bayesian filter (Gmail’s built-in filter is amazing – I believe it has only incorrectly tagged 1 message in the past 4 years).

My last name is owned by a cybersquater company called NetIdentity.com. All TLDs for my name are taken by this company. If you want to buy the domain, they ask for a ridiculous amount of money.

But, I do own a few really cool domain names anyway that i can put an email on. Everyone knows my gmail one, so I haven't bothered.

Same here. What scumbags. I bet one could sue them for cybersquatting, since they likely have no legitimate reason to own your name.

Sorry, but vBull doesn't lie (although it does do some weird things sometimes). I moved it here just this morning and checked the moderator edits to make sure it hadn't been previously moved from another forum (it hadn't).

Since @ is pronounced att, wouldn't it be far cooler, and more practical, to have noble.co.uk instead?

That way you could both have had [email protected] and [email protected]. Right now I read your e-mail as matttt noble.co.uk.

I guess noble.co.uk was taken though.

And in case he does decide to get that domain, you just ruined the addresses for him by feeding them to spambots.

My last name is also owned by them and that's why i had to get firstnamelastname.com. Their webmail and hosting service is utter garbage.

it hasn't been moved, or else there'd be a "moved" message. There is none that I can see.

I had [email protected] for a while when IBM provided an internet service. Yes, Johnson is my surname.

It was awesome, easy to remember, easy to tell people, looked important... until I got every email from every idiot looking for a different person or business. And then that spam!!!

Now I just have an address of my first name @ an easy to remember domain.

Check the OS X page where I moved it from and you will see the redirect. It is now in the Lounge because I moved it from OS X.

Oh... yep, you're right. Some reason I thought the "moved" showed up on both locations.

my email is <firstname>@<lastname>home.org
my wife is <firstname>@<lastname>home.org
my kids will be <firstname>@<lastname>home.org (they don't get much email yet, so they don't have any email address)

It works out well for us. Easy to tell people (though .com would be easier), and easy to remember.

I've got [email protected]
Got offered quite a bit of many for the domain last year. I don't think I'll ever sell it, unless times should get seriously hard.

Yep, got in early.

how do u see it though, do u see it as mattnoble or matttnoble, the reason i bought i was for use in print on my portfolio ect, so it was more a case of visuals. i havent checked but im sure noble.co.uk .com ect have all been taken, quite a common name.

my friend has Ben@Nickname/First Half Of Lastname.me.uk on the whole subject of home.org.

and as for the moved topic, thats strange cause i made especially sure to put in lounge after i accidentally posted a topic the other day in the wrong place

As @ is pronouced AT, I always read it as such. It has always been a pet peeve of mine when people used it as a replacement for A.

Fortunately that has become less commonplace in this post dotcom crash world.
