When I browse my hard disk under OS9, and I open a new folder the old folder remains. There can be dozens of windows open by the time I find what I am looking for.
How can I open a new folder and close the old one at the same time?
(can it be done?)

Hold down your option key when double clicking through folders.
<font color = green>or</font>
Launch your Script Editor and paste the AppleScript code below into it. Then, compile the script as an application and set it to a Hot Key or put an alias in your Apple Menu.
tell application "Finder"
close (every window whose index is not 1)
end tell

This is perfect. (Both solutions!) And this is much more than I expected.
Thank you very much!
