http://www.florigene.com.au/

way cool! Made by Suntory and Australian bio venture FlorigenePty, Ltd. using the good old biotechnology.

TOKYO Suntory Ltd said Wednesday it has developed the world's first biotechnology-driven blue roses. In a project Suntory started in 1990 with its Australian bio-venture subsidiary Florigene Pty Ltd, researchers have been trying to develop blue roses by extracting blue-pigment genes from other plants, such as petunias, and implanting them into roses.

Suntory said it eventually succeeded in creating blue pigment in roses by implanting the gene that leads to the synthesis of blue pigment from pansies. Unlike roses created by using conventional breeding technologies, the roses developed in the Suntory project have almost 100% Delphinidin in their petals, which has made new and very different blue roses possible. Very interesting.

You know that thing where you don't hear someone's name for years, and then all of a sudden you hear about them and half an hour later you happen to meet them in the street?

That sort of just happened to me... I'd never in my life heard of Suntory before, but an hour or so ago when I was going home, I wanted something to drink and happened to pick up some bluish sports drink thingy called Ultima, made by Suntory... and now this.

It's a weird world, now even weirder for the blue roses being here...

i find this strange in the fact that a friend and i just had a talk about whether blue roses exist or not. since there was that one episode of the smurfs where smurfette wanted a blue rose and a witch(?) turned a white one blue for her, but smurfette turned white.

coincidences are weird.

Interesting! But blue doesn't look like a romantic colour. It looks like something you give to a hospital patient, or your grandma

They've been selling blue roses here (Perth) for about two months now. I was going to mention it, but then I thought... nah!

If I had a girlfriend I'd definitely give her blue roses. Both because its a nice color and its just slightly more "special".

Blue roses:

If she's feeling blue?
If she's blue balling you?
If she's bruised black and blue?
