sorry if this has been posted, im on my way out and am in a rush.

basically, i just set up my imac with an external harddrive with 10000 tunes on it. then i got a rca to minijack adaptor and hooked it up to my receiver, so i have music throughout the house now.

when the minijack is plugged into my iPod, it works. when it is plugged into my imac it works, but only out of one speaker. i have tried everything i can think of.

any suggestions? new cable needed? some crazy thing within the iMac that is causing it to go mono on me?

Thanks, CPS

You may have a flakey jack (RadioShack products, for example, tend to be crappy), but check to see whether you have balance centered in the Sound control panel.

balance was centered.

Also, forgot to mention that when i plugged my ipod headphones into the minijack both headphones worked. Weird.

Some cheap cables will have plugs that don't fit properly into some minijack sockets.

BTW, just for the record:

"mono" means that both channels carry the same signal; all musical information will be there (though on badly-produced stuff, phasing problems can cancel out some frequencies).

Hearing only one channel of a stereo signal is not mono; it's simply a broken stereo signal.

naw the one speaker that is producing sound is playing both channels.

it is a little distorted though.

if its the cable that is the problem then why did it work when i plugged it into my iPod? possibly a problem with the iMac?

lets hope not
