I'm considering buying it at my college bookstore. I know iMovie won't work, how is everything else on a PB G4?

hiya,

What PBG4? My 1.67Ghz AlBook runs it fine (except iMovie '08, but hell... iMovie '06 is much better )

I like it!

It's a 12" PB G4 1 GHz with 1.25 GB of RAM --- Yeah, I borrowed a MacBook and saw iMovie 08... didn't really like the look and feel to it.

iMovie requires a G5 or Intel machine. It's sad that Apple is dropping support for hardware that is barely two years old.

I have a 1.33ghz powerbook with 1.25gb ram,and ilife 08 runs PRETTY good, but ive found that iPhoto can be a little sluggish. but it works none the less.

iTunes with 80GB : slow, the window itself won't redraw for a while after making it frontmost
iPhoto with 300 photos : usable speed for browsing, zooming, editing. Edit mode is still very slow, especially the sharpen tool.
iWeb : almost unusable.

And I don't use iDVD and Garage Band.

PB G4 1.33, 1.5GB.

I went from iLife '05 to iLife '08. Only using iPhoto and GarageBand though. Can't comment on the others. iPhoto (with around 7,000 photos) initially had a freezing issue, but this has been fixed with the latest update. It seems much faster at browsing through photos than '05 was.
GarageBand is not overly fast, and I still get the error message saying that it could not play back all tracks live from time to time. But I got that even in '05. At least, it seems to be happening less in '08.

Oh, does iTunes even count as part of iLife anymore? :o

Specs in sig. Just ask if you've got any more specific questions about either of these apps.

For the brief amount of time I ran it on my desktop G4, it was ok... iPhoto (with about 13,000 mostly RAW photos) was very jumpy, but it got the job done. Editing was rather slow.

Works fine on a G4 PB 1.25 with 1 Gb RAM. Bear in mind that I am not used to running it on an Intel machine. Posters complaining about the speed may have been running on faster machines but it is responsive enough and perfectly useable on 10.4 or 10.5.

PB 1.67 - I use iMovie classic (or whatever they call it), iDVD, iPhoto, iTunes etc, and they work fine. iPhoto is a little slow sometimes, but overall it's great.
Of course, the real question is, what do you want to use it for?
