Huawei has entered the wearable devices market with an accessory that provides users more options beyond just fitness tracking. The TalkBand B1 is a wearable fitness tracker that incorporates a detachable Bluetooth earpiece as part of the design, allowing the wearer to make and receive phone calls when not monitoring fitness. Electronista took a closer look at the device at the company's Mobile World Congress display.
The TalkBand B1 is made up of two parts. The 9.4-gram Bluetooth 4.1 earpiece supports iOS 5.0 and later devices, as well as those running Android 2.3 or later, with the initial synchronization possible over NFC as well. While it could not be worn at the event to test, it is claimed to have noise reduction via its dual-mic set-up.

The second section is a rubberized wristband, which the earpiece slots into. The band has contacts inside, which connect to the earpiece and allows for another set of contacts further down the strap to be used for charging, or connecting to a PC. When combined together, it is IP57-certified for water and dust resistance, though the texture of the band may be a sticking point for some wearers.

When docked into the band, only the 1.4-inch bendable OLED section on the outside edge is exposed, though this was not active on the stand. The display offers activity-tracking feedback, such as counting steps, distances, and calories, and it will also monitor the wearer's sleep. Its 90mAh battery is said to last for up to six days on a single charge, and charges in two hours.
Huawei plans to ship the TalkBand B1 in March to China, with Japan, the Middle East, Russia, and Western Europe set to receive it from the second quarter. A price has not yet been provided.

The "wire" are security cables to keep observers (competitors) from stealing it.

Correct. Every stand has their own security scheme, seemingly differing between manufacturers and types of product on show here. The rare shots of products without security tags you occasionally see are still secure, but more in the form of a booth employee standing over your shoulder rather than a tether.
