I used fetch to get in. It lets you retry the download automatically. However I'm currently pulling 1.2 kbytes/sec .

Can someone post the URL that they send you via email? I have been waiting for quite awhile, and it hasn't shown up yet.
If it is indeed "unique" as they say, can someone mirror the installer?

the ftp address to download it is....
ftp.infoyouaskedfor.com/pub/palm/
.... i've finally got a connection after having 4 transmit windows open and all set to continually redial for the past half hour. i'd set two to try and download the spanish verson and 2 for the english version and as chance would have it it's the spanish version that's come through. i'll mirror it on my idisc if it ever finishes downloading if anyone wants the spanish version. let you know when it's done.
it's downloading like molasses but it's downloading. if this is any good then i just need photoshop and flash for X [oh yeah and a nice automatic disc cataloguer] and i think i can pretty much give classic the boot!

After 2 hours of downloading, I finally got to install. First try at syncing up through IrDA = my very first kernal panic. I feel so...unamused.

Yes. I have a Pismo. Is infrared supported on the Pismo? Or just on the new tibooks?

I had troubles too. I had set the HotSync manager to IrDA under connection settings. It somehow dropped the preference and I had to go set it again. Then rebooted the machine and it is working now. I wonder if the reboot is the key ingredient, since the IrDA port has to start monitoring for syncs.
Edited to add: This is on a Rev. A Pismo 500.

If anyone else manages to get the IrDA sync working from a Pismo, I'm curious to hear about your sync speed. Mine is as slow and painful as waiting for the app to download at 1.2 kbps per second.

How fast was it under OS 9? I found infrared so slow on my Windows 2000 laptop that it was essentially unusable if I wanted to backup anything or access AvantGo, etc. It's nice and speedy with USB on my iBook though.

Don't have any times with which to benchmark, but it definitely feels slower than it did in OS 9. And I haven't added anything. In fact, I dropped AvantGo, so it should take less time.
And adding insult to injury, I added some things to my datebook and went to re-sync. Hung up on the Date Book sync for a good 15 minutes. Canceled the sync, started it again, and hello...kernal panic number 2!
Ugh.

I'm also running into trouble with my Keyspan PDA adapter. The HotSync Manager sees the adapter, and lets me select it, but no go when I press the hotsync button on my cradle..
Anyone have any luck with adapters? (thanks in advance for any help provided)

I got a kernel panic at first too. This is how I got it to work:
1) Under network preferences for IRda choose null modem 115,000
2) Under hotsync configuration check IRda
3) Under hotsync highlight the IRda option and click on seetings
4) Change the seetings from as fast as possible to 115,000
It appears that changing the speed to be fixed on my TI PB G4 500 got rid of the kernel panic...

Just in case anybody is wondering, I'm using the native USB cradle for my Visor Deluxe, not one of these USB to serial doohickies.

I had to restart to make it work. The login items that were placed in my login items were 1) Palm Desktop Background & 2) Transport Monitor. I guess if you launch those 2
then it should work.
Also, make sure you have the latest drivers for the Keyspan PDA and make sure it's recognized under Apple System Profiler

Does installing Palm Desktop 4.0 require a restart or just a logoff/logon? Does it install any kernel extensions (Please say no)?

HotSync Manager keeps quitting, something having to do with a shared library error. Anyone else having this problem?

Very Nice!
After a restart, I performed a HotSync with my SONY Clie 610 - No more "Missing Sync" for me.
Now, does anyone know how I can mount the Memory Stick on the desktop??

Working fine with PalmSync USB, but I first restarted, then unplugged & replugged the USB adapter (without classic running). Since then it has worked beautifully--much better than classic hotsync, which only worked occasionally.

I got a kernal panic on IR sync too, but USB worked fine. It imported my OS9 contacts fine too.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

Question? Is this a carbon or cocoa application (personally I can't wait until we can't tell the difference)? The reason I ask is because everything but the text seems to function like a cocoa app. Smooth resizing and services are a huge plus with this application.

I had the same problem and suddenly after a bit of trying and enabling and disabling HotSync it started to work. I don't know what I did. I have a Palm IIIx, PB G4 400, latest Keyspan software of their
web site. Hot sync cable so I am starting hot sync from the Palm.
On a different tack can someone who has IrDA sync working post the setting details. Did you fiddle with the Network settings? Does the IrDA menu see the Palm ?
Thanks - Michael

Have not flirted with the beta yet, but is it true that you can only hot sync with classic disabled. This seems like a step backwards to me. I can hot sync now through the classic environment (which I keep up and running all the time) with the old software. Now I would have to quit classic, hot sync, then reboot classic.
Can someone confirm that this is the case. If so I'll pass on this version.

You are advised not to have Classic running. I haven't tried it with Classic running. I don't know if there is a serious issue or if they are just concerned that people will get confused and have two hot sync managers watching for a sync which I assume would be a problem.
