Just as the title states--are the new power adapters included in the new shipments of MBPs, or are they a separate accessory?

Not sure, as I've never seen the "old" ones. Mine is roughly 4x4x2.
I like my water with hops, malt, hops, yeast, and hops.

It's easy to tell the difference: square vs. rectangular. The older 85W, like I have for my 2.33 MBP is rectangular. From the Apple store online, it looks like the new 85W is square and smaller, which would be really nice.

I think I may pick one of these newer adapter for my MBP...the current adapter sometimes gets in the way at work

It's not that much different than the old one, really. Go get a Dell and see what kind of a brick comes with it.

I didn't have my MBP with me when I post the above post, I do know though. It's more rectangular than square.

It may depend on the model. I have a 600m sitting here and it's power adapter is about an inch longer than the one for my MBP, but is about an inch less in width. They are both about the same thickness.

All the Dells lately come with a cord-wind-friendly converter that's about 8" long, 3" wide, and 1 1/2" thick whether it's a low wattage unit or a high wattage unit. They are not heavy or clunky. They're not cool like MBP adapters, but they do the job without being a pain.

Now my old Inspiron 8200's charger...that IS a brick. About the same size as above, but both SOLID and heavy. The difference is the technology used; just about all computer makers switched to high efficiency switching power supplies in their laptop chargers, and that has made a huge difference.

Is it just me or does that sound absolutely huge?

The Apple adapter is 4" x 3" x 1". The Dell is 5.25" x 2" x 1". I'm not sure if it's the same one that Glenn is talking about though.

This is what I get for not bothering to get up and measure something before posting its dimensions. Rumor's numbers are accurate, mine are poo. I did it from memory. This may explain why I have occasional depth perception problems...

Both the PA-10 and PA-12 are about the same size. The PA-10 is the 90 Watt unit, while the PA-12 is a 65 Watt unit.

Are you sure? The PA-10 65W I have is shorter and thinner than the 90W (unsure of model) I have.

The Dell PA-10 is big, but for its size it's not really heavy.
It functions fine too, there are lipped edges on either end of the adapter which I can use to wrap the cords vertically down the length of the adapter so that they stay on, then fasten the strap to hold them on.

Apples chargers have winders for the thinner cord that goes to the laptop, but not the thicker cord. The Dell does both.

The PA-10 is the 90 watt model. I don't have a PA-12, 65 watt unit to measure, but it could be a bit smaller.

4x3x1? Ouch. Even the newer one is a heft 2.75x2.75x1. If PC manufacturers can do 3x1.5x1 for 90W, I don't see why Apple can't do just as well.

Where in the world did you see one this small for 90 W?

Also, the reason a PC manufacturer can make them smaller probably is because they put more of the power supply circuitry in their honkin' huge cases instead of in the brick. "One inch thin" doesn't allow for much space.

My bad. Actually, it's only 65W. I mixed up the specs with another Ac adapter. But if you think the ThinkPad X61 (think 12" iBook G3 at 3.5 lbs) is 'honkin huge', you should see my MBP!

does anyone know if we can bargain for this baby? i ordered a new macbook pro 4 days before it was introduced and won't get it until 2 weeks after it was introduced.. i was going to suck it up and buy it if i didn't get it, but then saw that it was 80 dollars. i was wondering because they do this kind of thing for new operating systems. if you buy it within a couple of weeks, you get it for almost free (i think $10?).

I got a MacBook Pro 2.2 (matte) from Amazon on Friday. It comes with the new power brick.

This computer was built between the 16th - 22th of July (Shanghai, China).

Great news! I put in my order last week, so hopefully mine'll ship with the new brick too.

Maybe this new adapter will include a stronger, more re-enforced cable to help prevent fraying and melting issues.

My stock config MBP 2.4 was ordered from Apple on 7/16. It shipped directly from China over the weekend and arrived today. It came with the new smaller power adapter.

I've received a replacement for my power brick this week, it was still the old/big one.

Just received a new MBP 2.4, came with the newer (smaller) power brick. It now looks like the older adapters.

I just hope it last longer than the truly tiny AC adapter for my iPhone...

My new Macbook Pro should be arriving in a few days. I hope that its the smaller brick. Those old ones were quite big compared to the G4 Powerbook ones.

(Not that I should really complain as PC users have such horrible power adaptors on average.)
