CuteNews is a great and easy to use free blog/news software. Go to www.cutephp.com for more info on it. All you need is php on your web server.
A switcher as of 8/20/03 and loving every moment of it!

or movable type which i use myself. it's free for a 1 author 3 blog system, after that you pay.

your client is going to need a host that allows cgi scripts to be run, and a mysql server would be nice too. then you just upload all the movable type (or other) files to their ftp site, edit a config file, and it should work fine.

then you can start customizing the template to fit into their site.

If your client's web host offers Fantastico, they should be able to install b2evolution, pMachine Free or WordPress at the click of a button.

Movable type is quite fun and rather easy to setup and use. I second this vote.

got to disagree with you there. i found MT a complete X@£?& to install and configure and every upgrade seemed to break it again and lead to more hours of frustration getting it back on its feet. i've since switched to wordpress and never looked back. it offers pretty much everything MT does, only in a far easier to install package.

[and it's completely free!]

Another vote for WordPress...very customizable, great support community (and free).
I do not like those green links and spam.
