IK Multimedia has started shipping
SampleTank 3, an upgraded version of its "groove workstation" for Mac and Windows users. The main addition is a redesigned interface, newly streamlined into three pages: Play, Mix, and Edit. The first allows for performance, layering, and adjustments, while Mix handles effects and processing. Edit enables more in-depth sound control, including access to 10 filters.
Also new is a built-in MIDI engine, which lets people compose tracks from a library of 2,500 loops and 2,000 MIDI patterns. Creations can be dragged and dropped for export to separate audio workstations. The app as a whole has expanded its sound library to over 4,000 instruments, and 22 new effects. IK notes that underlying engines have been optimized for faster sample load times and reduced CPU usage.
SampleTank 3 is currently selling for $200 new, or $150 as an upgrade from SampleTank 2 XL or Miroslav Philharmonik. After September 30th prices will be hiked to $350 and $200, respectively.
