Ordered a white 30 GB version. I don't care for the bigger color screen or the photo/video capability. I just want more capacity, since my 4th Gen. 20 GB is running low on free storage. And it's some gramms lighter.

I got it for just under 300 € with my edu discount. Nice. I hope to sell my old one for around 200,- Euro.

Ahhhh!

My iPod 20Gb photo was due to arrive Saturday, and now I have to reorder for the new 30GB iPod video plus I don't live in the US so it's going to mean a wait.

It's bittersweet news.

Damn apple's restless innovation.

Why do so many people go for black? White is neutral; like the gallery wall; a blank back drop for music and cover art. Plus, black scratches.

Anyway, I love the look of the wide screen, white or black.

So when's the new iPod going to be available in the States?

Lucky you. I'm living in Korea. This morning I called the Apple Centre to ask when the new video iPod would be in, and the guy was like, "what new iPod?"

Yes, 'tis so. But I fear it is the inherent shape of the sausage that is to blame, for it evoketh both the turd and phallus, and yet it is withal still edible. A troubling contradiction.

What I fear more is the color, which makes a rather unhealthy impression. Imagine, this very saussage may have been eaten by someone!

Ordered one in Sydney, Australia. Est. ship 7-10 days.

Funny thing is, I already have a PSP so can already do portable video to some extent. But I knew instantly this would be for a different usage pattern: the PSP is large, doesn't have a hard drive, and is VERY fussy about the MPEG-4 format/file names it accepts.

The viPod will sync automatically, be with me most of the time hanging on my belt, will be supported by many, many Mac shareware developers, and will be so damn cool I'll be fighting hot chicks off for months! (Not fighting very hard though. They'll be very welcome to make some videos with me if they want.)

Besides, I've got to have the latest iPod!

Ordered the 60GB white, made the novice mistake of bundling the Universal dock so I won't get the iPod for 1-2 weeks. My White 4GB nano will now be sold off, leaving my nice White PSP to keep me occupied until it arrives.

Apple usually ships an order in two packages when something like this happens. When I ordered the Nano for me and my wife, it came in a few days. A few weeks later, her lanyard headset came (all were ordered at the same time).

Unfortunately it is not a wide screen, but it is a wider screen than previous iPods had. Perhaps that's what you meant.

I had originally gotten a PSP based on its supposed video capabilities, but that proved to be an enormous pain in the neck. Now, I'm all over this new iPod!
After finding that the local Apple Store has no clue when they'll get them in stock, I put in my order for a black 60 GB model to replace my 2-year-old 4 GB mini. Happy Birthday to me!

i havent ordered one yet mainly because of my 8 month mini and the fact that i havent seen how good the screen is..
i am really eager to get one because i edit video and it would be nice to carry a "video resume" around with you whenever you want to...
plus video podcast are nice...
i have a feeling this is a "test" product to see how well it does. I bet in year they would release a true psp killer by having a widescreen display and some sort of touch screen display or slide out controller..
once i get a chance to see its actual quality (a quality that is good enough for the eyes...), then i will decide if its time to go with a 30 gig...

We're going to have to have a thread on the theoretically new and improved battery life of the ipods. I'm eager to see if they actually managed to produce an ipod with 20 hours of song playback.

Uh... Yeah...

I'm just trying to make sure that people don't misunderstand that it's widescreen. I've seen a number of people say that, and it's not true. It's the same aspect ratio as non-widescreen TV.

why would apple put a wide screen on a "primarily for music" device?
unless they put the screen across the entire ipod to get rid of all the "white space," i think it would be stupid to make it widescreen in its current orientation...it would make it to rectangularly and too much space would be wasted...

I agree on the point of being a test product. When i heard the rumbling of an i pod that plays video i always that thought that the screen would be landscape orientation (and larger screen).Ohh well
Apple an innovator in a world of Immitators.
And thats the bottom line!!!!!!!!!

The could make the whole front of the ipod a touch-sensitive screen and have the scroll-wheel as part of the interface. Probably would suck compared to the way it's done now though.

I bought a 20 Gig iPod the week before the annoncement. Then I received it in no time. I believe I am stuck with it because it is engraved. Is this true? I am pissed off, I could have a 5G if I would of known.

Yes, I'm afraid you are stuck with it, unless you want to sell it to someone (whether that will be possible depends on what you have engraved, obviously).

Just ordered a black 60 gig model ... on impulse, I decided to have it engraved with "Don't Panic" as a Douglas Adams tribute.

It's replacing an original 5 gig model, which I bought just a few weeks after the first iPods were announced. The 5 gig will be kept as a future museum piece.

dvenne, Junior Member, you can always take it to a jeweler and have a design put over the engraving.

Heck, that's what I'm doing. Someone on ebay is gonna get a great deal when they get my 4G along with the crap I bought for it.

ive done some testing and it seems that on a dual 2.0 g5, a movie taking a two pass process@400kbps for video would take about 2 hours (when the movie itself is two hours) using handbrake.

I have my 60GB iPod Photo all loaded up with my tunes. I got a white 4GB Nano due to it's size and portability (love taking it on my bike rides). I'll get the 60GB white iPod Video for videos exclusively. I'm a iPodaholic!
