they are correct sir, just a safety precaution for you. Also like the suggestion to wear a static electricity bracelet.

No, there is no safety reason for it -- you cannot get harmed on the voltages and amperages from a laptop battery.
The reason for removing the battery is twofold: one is to make sure that the machine is in fact off, and not just asleep; the other is because even with the machine "off", it's still got power running through it (such as to power the power button). Any power in the system could cause damage to RAM on insertion -- it's very important that the system be fully unpowered, and removing the AC and battery is the only way to do this.

I meant safety for everything. Yes i understand that the voltage running a powerbook can't harm you but it can wreck your machine if you short it.

How do you know if you zapped your PB? Cause I forgot to take mine out. [ ]Nothing happened though. My battery was low to begin with, 25 mins left. RAM works too. Someone tell me I'm not the only who has done this.
Psst.. warfarer, I'm a girl.

I cal everyone sir on the forums. i am just used to it. If it still works you didn't zap it. Anytime you work on the inside of anything electronic, it is better to remove all power to it. Doing that just kind of dumbs down the process a bit and eliminates the possibility of zapping it.
