A 4.7-inch iPhone will start production in July, but a 5.5-inch model will only enter manufacturing in September, claims Taiwanese publication the Industrial & Commercial Times. July production would be in keeping with Apple's normal September/October iPhone launch window; starting in September, though, would imply a launch in late October at best, and most likely November. Apple typically needs two months to churn out enough units to meet launch demand.

The claim echoes a Reuters report that the 5.5-inch model will ship later, something attributed to production problems with the bigger screen size. While not as big as smartphones get, 5.5 inches is unusually huge for a flagship device and a full 1.5 inches beyond the iPhone 5s. Until this year, Apple has only ever produced 3.5- and 4-inch phones.

Now if Apple would only accept that Siri isn't a serious tool for texting. Open the friggen keyboard to developers so that we can find our own best method of texting. Swipe anyone? I've tried switching to Android a few times over this and I almost stayed with it on this last one. This bigger screen will solve my other major complaint, now fix text input and we're good to go.

All indications are that Apple is going to come out with a 4.7" iPhone this year, but every report also tags that 5.5" one on the end even though there hasn't been a scintilla of evidence that it even exists. There are no engineering drawings or mockups of it, no blurry photos, no case dummies, no hoaxes even.

At what point is some tech site going to stand up and just say that it isn't likely to even be a real thing?

@Gazoobee: at no point. It would be the opposite of click-bait, so it ain't gonna happen.

Hey MacNN, I fixed this sentence for you: "Apple would typically need six to eight months to churn out enough units to meet launch demand, so regardless whether they start producing in July or September, there won't be enough units to satisfy demand. And still, at the end of the day that's a good thing."
