Yo, almost missed this
The original Powerbook one allowed you to see the back light of the keyboard - Having a quick look at the website, the MBP ones appear to be made of the same material, so I'm assuming they do, yes.
Just a quick note though, the cover dimmed the back light quite a lot, but the keyboard was still readable in the dark

duracell, are you talking about the black one (eclipse) or referring to the clear one?

Hi,
Sorry, I didn't realize the topic said black, but I can help you out anyway
The black one completely blocks out the backlight, there is absolutely no light let through. In my opinion the arctic one looks best anyway, Arctic and Sonic covers both let light through, not sure about the pink one though
Edit - MacNN reviewed it a while back - MacNN | Review: iSkin Inc. iSkin ProTouch keyboard covers

I just bought a mbp and was checking out keyboard covers when I read the review that Duracell linked to. Nowhere in any of the stores or the online literature did I find anyone saying it wasn't good to use one because of the trapped heat or possible marring of the screen. Then, Lo and Behold, on page 64 of the little book that comes with the computer it says "never place anything over the keyboard when operating your MacBook Pro".

I wouldn't let that warning put you off getting one.
From personal experience using one on a MBP, It doesn't really appear to get hot (or even warm), so I'm assuming it's not absorbing much heat. The material that it's made of is quite thick, but it doesn't raise above the keys very much because It fits into the groove of the keyboard, I'm pretty sure it doesn't make any contact with the screen - and if it does, i've not noticed any damage as of yet.
It's not ALL good though, it seems to attract dust and dirt like a magnet, presumably because of the static quality of the material, It'll require a shake every now and then to remove any dirt that may have found it's way onto it, better that than in your keyboard though, eh?
