An old (1965) Cessna 150.
It's a project. It needs magnetos for sure.
And a bunch of little stuff.

I'm gonna offer the guy $8K for it. As is.
I'll fix it, fly it then maybe sell it.
It sure gets better fuel economy than my 172s.

Wow, nice. Clearly worth it if you're willing to put in the extra work.

These older planes are being bought, taken apart, then shipped to Europe.
They refurbish them as it costs WAY less than a new one.
This one was built in France at that.

Oh man, I so wish I could do that. My license is languishing because there's no private flying where I live.

I'm spending a week learning to bush fly a supercub later this summer, I can't wait.

In the most simple terms, a magneto is a generator for the engine.

Yes, pretty much. A magneto changes the mechanical energy into electrical energy just like a battery and alternator and voltage coil/distributor does in a car.

Actually they make the sparkplugs fire.
I can have a full electrical failure and the engine will still run.

That is a very nice looking plane bubblewrap. I wish you all the best and success with the purchase and repair.

That 152's airworthiness cert is no longer valid for some reason.

Your trusty lawnmower engine uses a magneto to fire the sparkplug.
