Dear MacNN forum readers,
I'm sure some people have experienced this as I heard about it on the Microsoft newsgroups. Well the answer lies in how MRJ 2.1 and 2.1.1 installs its software. After installing MRJ it is necessary to reinstall Text Encodings 1.4 from scratch. That means booting from the CD-ROM, and trashing the old Text Encodings Extension and Text Encodings folder within the System Folder's Extension Folder (or System Folder as the case may be), and then reinstalling custom install Text Encodings from the OS 8.5 CD. If you need the proper text encodings software and don't have it, please e-mail me, and I'd be happy to send you a binhexed self extracting archive.
Sincerely,
