The hard drive in my 15" Powerbook G4 has suddenly died and I am looking for a replacement. I was wondering if anybody could give me any recommendations. I believe I am looking for something from the pre-SATA drive era but I am not sure of the exact format. I would preferably like one with a 7200 RPM speed but cost is a factor so please keep any suggestions reasonable. Also, as an aside, I would just like to be sure that it is my hard drive that is dead and not something else. When I try and boot up, the hard drive makes a horrible clicking noise and will not be recognized by the computer but the computer will boot from an installation CD or an external drive. This means that the cause is most likely a dead drive, correct?

Thanks for all the help.

The clicking definitely means it's dead.

Any 2.5" IDE (ATA6) drive will do. A 160GB 5400RPM isn't much slower than a 7200RPM 100GB drive, and can be had for only ~$120. Seagate has a good warranty.

What speed 15" do you have? It could potentially limit you to 120gig depending upon how old it is.

It is 1.67 Mhz, I believe. Is it OK to go over 120 gig with that?
