Well, since most of have owning a Mac in common, and since it's usually a conscious decision, I was wondering what other informed decisions people make when it comes to buying things. In fact, I usually don't buy much, so I at least try to get something I think works well and looks nice.
I bought my stereo from BJs mainly because I liked its look and it sounded the best of all of them there. I've since seen several people who have the same stereo:
And I got this lamp from someone who didn't want to pack it home. It's fairly traditional in design but with a lot of nice touches, styling-wise. It used to have a plastic rim that attached to the head of the lamp (to diffuse light), though, which broke off, so that part's not exactly the best made. The rest, however, is pretty sturdy. I'm not sure where it's from, but if I were to guess, I'd say it's from Target:
Anyway, let's see what things you buy. Pictures aren't necessary if they're particularly well-known, but they're appreciated.

I bought 100 bdft of rough-sawn cherry the other day.
Other than that I have no idea what this thread is all about.
Are we supposed to take pictures of all the stuff we own and then tell you why we bought it?

Well, my idea was to see what people buy that rises above the "standard crap," so to speak. Like if you went out of your way to research the perfect refrigerator and would like to save someone else the trouble, post here. I wasn't originally thinking of posting pictures, but I figured I couldn't find my lamp on the web or describe it adequately otherwise. If you think posting a picture will help, post it.

Favorite Thing of Consequence... My Home (6 Weeks Old):
Favorite Frivolous Thing I Own Now... The Nokia 6230i:
I'm a total Nokia phone whore. I just love the things.
This one is a simple Series 40 and is just plain bulletproof.
Favorite Frivolous Thing I Will Own in Next Several Months... The Nokia n91:
This makes me drool, but maybe the iTunes one will be better.
Of course this one's for real and will be released soon. Somebody
poke me with a stick when the iTunes one debuts.
Favorite Thing I'm Unlikely to Own Anytime Soon... BMW 5 Series:

I love my Chacos, even though they are pretty expensive for sandals. I've had them for 5 years, and the soles are still going strong. I've never had a blister or any problems at all. Can't say the same for Teva.
I looked for the best sub $500 guitar out there for a while, and while there are people who don't like them, in general, you'll find good things said about Agile guitars. This particular has abalone inlay on an ebony fretboard. I love it.
There's a bunch of stuff I want, but these are the things I have that I'm really happy with that are non-computer related.
Oh yes, and how could I forget this:
Giant OCR2. From what I understand, its the least expensive bike in its class, while still having pretty decent components. The OC1 I guess just had crappy gear on it. I've had it for a year now, and ridden it quite a bit with absolutely no problems. Not even a flat.
And my car:
Hyundai Elantra
Don't be fooled just cause its a hyundai. This is a nice car. Leather interior, got the 5 speed (don't love automatic) power everything. Mine is blue though. I would have liked a black one. It could have more power, but it gets the job done.
Most of my stuff is pretty inexpensive. I've never had a lot of money, but I do try to get things I like, as opposed to just whatever junk is out there.

Beyerdynamic '770-80'.
Perfect for electronic music & movies.
Lots of bass, detailed and built like a tank.
Victorinox 'Signature'.
Got it for free from a very friendly and hospitable
family who work at Victorinox. It's small and have it always with me.
Bree 'Punch shoulder bag'.
Nice design, no-nonsense and very durable.

That's the next bike I was looking at buying. I love Giants, and have been thinking of a road bike for a year or so. I'll start checking the bike stores at the end of the season, see what deals they have on>
Guess I'll add mine! Giant Iguana, 11 years old. At the end of the season I'll be replacing the sprockets, but other than that, the thing's in top shape.

I really would love to get back into biking.
I was in BMX racing for over 5 years. LOVED IT. From 11 to 16 I raced till one day when we all was coming down the hill over the jump at the same time. EVERYONE wrecked into each other and I got a nice handlebar end to the lower back.
I have back lower back problems come and go since then.
I think a mountain bike would be more to my liking then a skinny wheeled city bike.
I would LOVE to go on the man bike trails they have in this area.
I've walked through most of them.
I think I'll start a new topic
