I have a 14" ibook running 10.4. All seems fine except when I disconnect the cord the book shuts down. My meter says I have a fully charged battery, the 4 lights on the battery shine, and it is seated properly.
Any thoughts on a fix?

Thanks

every time? Mine will go to sleep if I disconnect the power cord and the computer's been idle for longer than it's Battery Power sleep setting (but not as long as it's Power Adapter sleep setting).

I just copy and pasted the info from profiler. Without the power cord plugged in the book will shut down and will not start unless cord plugged back in.

Sounds like your battery has next to no charge capacity. Even if it has a capacity of 5 seconds, it'll still show in the menu bar as 100% if it's charged up to the full 5 seconds.

If that's the case, the only thing you can do is get a new battery, or only use it off of the power adapter.

I am having the same problem
The cycle count is at 215 and I have had the Macbook since about November 2006

The battery shows a full charge but I get about 10 seconds of actual battery power when the AC plug is pulled. It doesnt even go to sleep like when the batter is low, it just shuts down. When the power does go out the battery still flashes a full 4 lights saying its at full capacity.

Is a new battery really the fix for this or is this a hardware power management issue?
Smile. It will make people wonder what you're thinking.

Laauuren: Your battery problem in the MacBook is different--namely a new Macbook still under Applecare versus an old battery in an iBook. You should take yours to an Apple Store, where they'll probably replace the battery for you, free. If you're not close to an Apple Store, call the 800 number, they'll most likely ship a battery to you.

As for the iBook: all batteries eventually give up the ghost.
