This time I did a search (sorry about the quotes thing. I'm going blind, or crazy, or both!) and apparently nobody's done this yet. So - does anyone have any particularly delicious words to share?

portmanteau \port-"man-(')to, port-\ noun pl portmanteaus or portmanteaux \-(')toz\ [MF portemanteau, fr. porter to carry + manteau mantle, fr. L mantellum more at port] (1579)
1 : a large suitcase
2 : a word or morpheme whose form and meaning are derived from a blending of two or more distinct forms (as smog from smoke and fog)

I apologize again if a similar thread has been posted and I've missed it.

pedantic (ironic I should put this in, hmmm?): marked by a narrow, almost ostentatious concern for book learning and formal rules.

Where's Don? What's the word of the day from the Pickett Fence?

I'm going to pull your head off because I don't like your head.

There's nothing wrong with being pedantic.

serendipity \-"di-pe-te\ noun [fr. its possession by the heroes of the Persian fairy tale The Three Princes of Serendip] (1754)
: the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for

I wouldn't be able to answer that on Jeopardy, but I have a vague recollection of finding that on my way to finding serendipity.

...in the dictionary, that is.
