this sux
apple posts yet another firmware update that is only usable through os 9!
yet theyve been shoving os x down are throats for over 2 years and telling us 9 is dead!
well if 9 is dead, dont u think its about time to release firmware capable of being installed without os 9.
i havnt had 9 on my machine in over a year.
my digital audio mac is being wronged,
i feel bad for her that i can not give her this hard drive update!

I agree....

I have a QS that I bought in October (1 1/2 years) and the thing has gone through two hard disks (on my third).

So, I am curious about this, but I have no OS 9....morons.
signatures are a waste of bandwidth
especially ones with political tripe in them.

I believe you only need this update if you run mac os 9. Thus, if you run X, you do not need the update.

Actually, I believe it is only if you run OS 9.1 since that is the only requirement for it.

i beleive ur wrong,
i beleive this is a firmware update for hardware!
i beleive it has nothing to do with os 9 except for the fact that they have never released a firmware update through os x.
all have been only os 9..
sooo,
they need to get on it and make an os x capable firmware update.

There have been a SuperDrive update and a slot load Combo drive update - both running under Mac OS X.

i belieive ur incapable of correct spelling and grammar, and refuse to belieive (sic) the advice of people who know far more about the matter than you do. It is not in the least strange that a firmware update might be necessary for one OS but not the other, as their IO subsystems are completely different. The suboptimal condition that occurs in 9 might not be possible in X, or the firmware modification might be to work around a bug in 9.

I don't think this is a ROM update just software and I bet it is written into OSX.

Plus if it is for the 3 year old cube it can't be that important or a rush fix.

It actually calls it a firmware update and states that it extends the life of some drives.....and if you read my post above, you would understand at least my interest in it.

HAHAHAHAH!
all of u goto hell
dont make fun of my complaints, i knew a hard drive update wouldnt have to do with the OS, but the actual firmware!
apple today released through software update in os x :

The Hard Disk Update improves the longevity of some hard drives. Your drives may or may not need to have firmware updated; installing and running this update will tell you if updating is required.

IMPORTANT -- It is strongly recommended that you back up the data on your hard drives to an external drive or removable media before running this update. If an error should occur during the update process, your hard drives may become unusable. In that case, all data on the drives could be lost.

Note: When installation is complete, Hard Drive Update 1 should launch automatically. If the update does not launch automatically, please launch it manually:

/Applications/Utilities/Hard Drive Update 1

ok

so ha!
and woo hooo
i got the update

my hard drive will live a long healthy life!

gd bless apple

If you're over 8, shame on you for not knowing how to act. If you're under 8, which seems far more likely, shame on your mother for not teaching you.
