I have a solid 600 emails in my gmail account that I would like to access through Mail, but I can't figure out how to get it to download them. It only downloads new messages

Go into your gmail settings.
In the POP access section select the radio button that says "Allow POP access for all messages (even those that have already been downloaded)"
