Hey guys, just thought I would post this here if any1 was interested. New rumor goin around about the mac mini is getting replaced by a Mac nano. Of course with all rumors take it with a grain of salt lol. Anyways, heres the link Oh and sorry if this has already been touched on...

It'd be cool if they stuck a iPod dock on it this time too - There was some info about a possible planned iPod dock when the mac mini first came out (hardware still in there, or something) , so it's always possible!

Not a tablet... but I could see bigger integration with iPod and entertainment... Perhaps becoming a extra high end Apple TV/ computer.

I'm envisioning something more along the lines of a larger, full Mac version of the iPhone.

I think the mini is rather too small than too big — a 3.5" HDD should fit in there. And the case should be easier to remove (how about a MP-style lever rather than these plastic tabs?).

That said, if making an even smaller Mac nano means there will then be room for a new Mac mini with 2 disk bays, 2 PCIe slots, and a desktop CPU/chipset I know a lot of people who'd be pretty happy about it.

BTW, AppleInsider is also convinced the current Mac mini will be EOL'ed by the end of this month.

did you read the thread? The Mac Mini has been "about to be EOLed" for about a year now.

The Mac mini is a great little computer. I'd recommend it to anyone who already has a display. Whether or not it's "about" to be discontinued or replaced with something else makes no difference. IMO, "nano" would be a silly thing to call its replacement. The nano is an iPod.

QFT. Although there might be good reasons for Apple to can it, you have to admit the "mini EOL is imminent" rumors have been around for ages now and nothing unusual has happened so far. It's become a guessing game. We simply have no clue how long it's going to be around. Enjoy it while it lasts.

I disagree. First of all the mini was an iPod too. And secondly, calling the successor "Mac nano" would finally make room for a new Mac mini: A quad-core headless Mac with four RAM slots, two 3.5" HDD bays, and 2 PCIe slots.

That's a completely new product branch, not a replacement for the mini.

I think if they EoL the Mac Mini then they'll get rid of the TV too and combine the products into a media center Mac.

Specs:
1.8 GHz C2D
512 to 2 GB of RAM (sold by Apple that is)
250-750 GB HD
Superdrive
Full Leopard

Maybe a Mac tablet to go along with it too. You could use screen sharing to control the Mac nano with any Mac, and a Mac tablet could complement the Mac nano.

Considering how cool the Penryn desktop CPUs seem to run, a mini based on lowend desktop parts would be possible around mid 2008. If they made it flatter, lower but wider, they could also fit a 3.5" HD in there. That would bring the price of it back down towards the $499 point where they need to be, even including a Superdrive. You might refer to that as a Mac nano.

The iPod mini is no longer made or sold. The iPod nano is the best selling digital music player in the world. I would think Apple would want to avoid dilution of the nano name. Surely there is another name they can come up with for a new Mac.

I love my mini. It's no slouch, especially with the full 2GB ram, it's super stable and a real trojan. It replaced a G4 mirror door in our office and was a good speed bump over that machine. We already had the 22in screen and the keyboard etc so it was a good choice.
