Could someone please write me a script that will automount file servers, thereby bypassing the logon
window completely? This used to be possible before OS8.5, and now it is not possible. Our school uses a lot
of Macs- about 200 or so- and the daily login problems are- pardon the pun- mounting by the day. We
need to mount 3-4 servers at a time, for server-based applications. Those servers should be able to be as
transparent as possible. We simply don't need the level of security that requires a login. There are two
teachers who are trying valiantly to keep this thing working, and we desperately need this kind of a script.
I have asked our techies many times, and nobody even understands how. Please help; we will even pay. I
believe you would get rich from the educational systems using Macs if it worked. Thanks to all who can
help us with this.

Maybe I'm missing something here...

Which OS Version are you running? 9.x or X?

If running 9.x the simplest way would be to create aliases for the various servers and add them to the Startup Items folder in the System Folder.

If you don't want the servers to mount automatically, just keep the aliases around handy (maybe on the desktop or in a folder inside Apple Menu Items for easy access). When someone accesses the alias the system will automatically mount the server in the background.

There are other ways of doing the same thing, including AppleScript, but there's no need to reinvent the wheel.
