I have just purchased a retail version of Microsoft Office. I have a retail version of Microsoft Word 2004. I have removed the Word from my computer and want to know can I sell/transfer my Word 2004 to someone. In reading the license agreement I think it says if I remove all the components from my computer I can transfer my rights and original disc to somone else. I am no lawyer or asking legal advice just an opinion. I sure would not want to get on the wrong side of Bill Gates and company. He probably has Denny Crain working for him.

Yes, you can sell your copy of Word (license, media, or both).

Yes you can transfer the license. You just cannot sell it for more then its retail price.

What? You are certainly allowed to do that if you find an idiot who is willing to pay that much.

It depends on how you purchased the software Tetenal.

I know for Windows if you purchase a pc from an OEM in order to transfer the windows license; you must transfer the pc as well.

I would just read the license agreement that came with it. It is pretty clear.

As far as not selling for higher then retail; this I was specifically told by Microsoft itself. Whether it is still true; I am not sure, but that is what I have in writing from Microsoft.

That might be what's written in the license, but in Germany a court found that this term is void. You can find a lot of debundled OEM software at ebay.de and it's perfectly legal.

I find it odd that they want to dictate at which price you can sell your own property. I'm neither a lawyer nor an expert, but I would hope that such a term would be as unenforceable as the debundle forbiddance.

I dont disagree with you Tetenal. I am not saying it is right or wrong.. I am just saying how they do it. The way it is phrased is that it isnt your property, but you are entering into an agreement with Microsoft to use their software not own it.

Excuse me for jumping to conclusions as I must remember some people are in different countries that post on these forums and the laws may be different on certain purchases from other places.
