Hi all,

I had a look at Apples pages:
http://www.apple.com/ilife/idvd/

And if you look at the very bottom, it says:
*Burning DVDs requires an Apple SuperDrive.

So does that mean that I can now author with iDVD on a non SuperDrive mac? Or is it still the same deal?

You can now work on iDVD on any mac (even if it does not have a superdrive), but to burn it, you will need to move the project to the Mac with a SuperDrive in it.

Excellent! Does it have to be a SuperDrive to burn? Will other externals do it?

I would guess that means an Apple-supplied one. But I don't know.

Maybe at some point there will be an external apple-supported SD. That's what I'm sure a few of us are hoping for.

It's offical. You can install iDVD4 on a machine without a Superdrive. You cannot burn to an external DVD burner.

I heard it has to do with licensing because of the drives, not iDVD.

So buy a superdrive and put that CD-RW into the external case.

Oddly enough, my combo-drive emac came with iDVD... which is slightly odd.

How absolute is the 733MHz PowerPC G4 requirenment for iDVD? Will it even open on a G4 400?

Actually the Pioneer drives are recognized by OSX as a superdirve. I got one (the A-06 as I recall -- but check first) and it works great with iDVD. (The older one)

Yes, but they have to be installed internally to be seen as a SuperDrive

If you have an external DVD burner and not an internal one but you have access to another Mac with a SuperDrive and need multiple copies of your DVD here's a trick I use. Create your iDVD project and archive it. Move it to the SuperDrive Mac and burn one DVD. If you want more than one then take your DVD and copy it with your burner using Disc Utility or Toast.

Bummer... It won't create a standard disc image that could be moved to another computer with DVD authoring software and burned there?
