Why did people freak out about the oozinator video? People link to videos on YouTube all the time and people never complain that YT is making money, just that the site sucks. Why did everyone have a hissy fit when a member stood to make a little cash over a debatably funny video?

I'm curious about this for several reasons, but one is that there are rumors that Apple will allow something similar in iWeb2 where people will be able to collect money for linking to iTunes songs on their sites.

Is it wrong for an individual to make money on the web, but not large corporations?

Does the term "family friendly, work friendly forum" mean anything to you?

Besides, YouTube is making money off YouTube videos. The guy that posted the thread you mention was making money off that one. Every time someone clicked on it. That's a violation of our rules about no commercial postings. It's wrong for an individual to post something on our forums for profit because it violates the "no spam" rule, particularly when it's not obvious to everyone that it's spam. Hiding the revenue stream makes it worse.

And again, how could the subject (or even the subject LINE) be "family friendly?"

kman is, in fact, just asking a legitimate question (though he might have done so in the Feedback forum).

He's a recent switcher (as per his other posts).

kman, Welcome to Macintosh, and Welcome to MacNN.

I think ghporter covered your question.

He's obviously not new to posting threads and he's obviously not trying to ingratiate himself nicely to this forum or other members.

He's an @ss for posting a thread like that - he could have made his point without being offensive.

Actually, I'm not a recent switcher or a junior member. I just cleared my cache and lost the password to my old account.

I posted a legitimate question regarding why people think a link to a video on a page that might benefit an individual is different from a link to YouTube. Or for that matter, why is it different from the numerous links to the Apple store or Amazon. There may be legitimate concerns about individuals posting items for sale or viagra ads, but I see that as different from a link to a video that is pertinent to the post. The former might more rightly be considered spam, but the latter certainly is not.

I'm sorry if you were offended by the title of the thread (although only a little), but I was trying to relate it to the original post. And I suppose you weren't offended by the scantily clad women found in any of these threads:

Ah. I misunderstood this post of yours then:

I was originally planning on getting the entry WhiteBook. With the discoloration issue noted in another thread and scratch-prone "iPod" finish on the outside, I was thinking the BlackBook would be the better choice. However, the CD/DVD scratching issue might be the kiss of death for me. With this and the noise issues that some have been reporting, I would find it very hard to justify spending $1500--almost twice as much as a fairly decent Windows laptop. I would appreciate hearing other thoughts.

No, you're not.

You did it once and the thread was closed.

Then you did it again.

That says that you disrespect the mod/admin/forum where the thread was closed previously.

Lastly, I was offended by the thread title.

Why don't you just stick to posting in porn threads? Your familiarity with posting distasteful threads is evidence of the type of forum you are most comfortable with.

I didn't post the first thread. You can repeat it as much as you want in as fanatical a way as you want, but it won't make it true. And you are correct, that I am not all that sorry that I offended you with a word. I was simply trying to refer back to the original thread. Perhaps I should have gone with 'oozinator video'. Bad choice on my part. But since you are being such a jerk about the whole thing and bandying about your self-rightesnous, then no, I am not sorry I offended you.

I just had a real question about why people flew into such a tantrum over a link to a similar feature that may be coming to an Apple product in the near future: iWeb2 rumors suggest that people will be able to be paid for linking to iTunes songs.

No, we have lives. I just survived (that's how I think of it) the very worst summer semester ever. We have had people have to move on and stop being mods. We ARE looking for more mods, but it takes time to get the right people.

And yes, there has been a change in the servers-I'm having some download delay problems too.

Brassplayers, I'll look into it.

Okay, now that I have cleared that up and everyone who referred to me as either a newbie, a junior member, or banned has apologized (note: in lieu of an apology I'll accept cash or a visit to my click-pay spam video )

Now can we just get to the actual discussion? Maybe the mods can change the name of the thread so that no one with fragile sensibilities will be offended.

I guess the only questions are:

1) was that poster (oozinator?) really a spammer? (consensus seems to say yes - the link in the sig is the most damning evidence... without that link, would he still be considered a spammer?)

2) is it a bannable offense to post any links to movies on that site?

Unfortunately, with kid-and-family inappropriate threads soon there will be less and less people and then they don't have to worry about having a shortage of mods.

FWIW, the Oozinator movie was reasonably safe for work and families, IMHO.

In fact, I think it should be required viewing for parents.

The Oozinator gun itself, however, is quite, erm, well...more of a problem. The "cum gun" title is quite apt to the toy, and whoever thought of the product and DIDN'T think of that nickname truly deserved to be heavily pummelled and beaten about the head with a rubber chicken.

For days.

And I doubt all the sex threads we've had were appropriate either. Then again... the word sex by itself isn't as offensive as cum is to most people. Poorly titled thread has been fixed at least.

Not a thread title, but there are threads. Here's an interesting one with offensive material on the inside (which you started and added a warning in the title):

http://forums.macnn.com/85/macnn-lou...highlight=****

Now what's really interesting to me is why the word c-u-m isn't starred out like it usually is.

Cody:

Do you understand the difference between using the word "cum" to denote semen, and as used in phrases such as "graduating summa cum laude"?

Or using the word "cock" (not starred out either) when talking about "steaming hot young virgins penetrated by rock-hard cocks", and when talking about cocking a gun, or the administration's cock-up regarding Iraq?

Would you prefer to have them starred out?

IMO, starring out obscenities is borderline insulting to our intelligence, anyway, but your argument is just downright stupid.

And that's why it's no longer in the thread title?

Other people complained (at the beginning of this thread) also - and a previous similar thread was canned.

Just keep up your arguing - with yourself.

No I do not think that the multiple uses of the word is why it is no longer in the thread title... don't think that's what he was trying to say either.

I think he was trying to say that the reason its not starred out is because the computer cannot tell what context it is being used in. "Cum gun" is clearly innapropriate, hence, it is no longer in the title. "Summa cum Laude" is perfectly appropriate, hence, it is not starred out. It wouldn't be fair if the boards assumed the worst in us, as in, "he is typing 'cum,' he MUST mean semen!!!"
