So, what's it like. I imagine we have a big spread of forum users here, from high school kidz to business entrepreneurs, but whaqt do people here drive, aspire to and think is cool?
I'm 40, run my own business and have family and dog, so we drive a sensible daily car, just like this one (not my actual car)
I also drive this (actually mine)
and these are very very cool:
Retro Rides - *OOOF* : The Retro Rides Manifesto
What do other forum members drive around in? Or wish they did?

My first car as a teen was a 68 VW "square back." After that I had two Toyota Cellicas and then discovered Volvo. I've had 4 Volvos and loved them for their quality, safety and the solid way they drive. The rear wheel drive Volvos have such a tight turning radius that they almost spin in place.
My favorite was this '68 that I restored. I hated to see it go, it was a fun ride.
In the last few years I've become more environmentally concerned and have gone back to Toyota. I drive a 5-speed Camery and my wife drives a Sienna (we have two kids and carpool with our neighbors kids a good deal).
I would someday like to have a practical electric or a hybrid.
I think the Tesla is very cool.

This is my first car, a Smart cdi:
It does abut 70MPG (30km/l) and it's very easy to park

Another Smart ForTwo here, a 71bhp Pulse. its a petrol engine not a diesel CDi, my first car was a Skoda. Before anyone else says it, yes I am going through all the joke car makers, one by one, har-har .
It is fun to park in a bay and come up to a saloon car's doorhandle though .

Mine's the one on the left. The other is my wife's.
Not quite as easy to park as the Smart cars - but close!
I was interested in the Smart cars as well, but really disappointed with the mileage for the US-spec models. Not much better than the Mini...

Mine looks like this but a little more worn out.
1991 Plymouth Voyager. 350,000 kilometres and purrs like a kitten.

I don't have any current pictures of our cars, but that will change soon. I drive a 2007 Civic Sedan, and my wife drives a RED 2007 S 2000. It was time to move into new cars and we managed a great deal, so we now have two car payments, but really wonderful cars to show for it. BTW, I'm 49, retired Air Force, and almost done with my MS in a new profession.
I was surprised to learn recently that I fit quite comfortably in a Mini. I'm over 6'2", and I had expected to feel as cramped as I did in a Neon, but in fact the front seats are quite comfortable for me. If it weren't for the fact that I kinda need more passenger room than the four seats in a Mini provide, I might have gone for a Mini Sport instead of my Civic...

Yeah - I'm 6'5" and also have no problem. But it would be cruel and unusual punishment for anyone to sit behind me in the Mini... Right now that's generally not an issue. I'm 39 and no kids, but if that were to change we might have to rethink the situation. Actually the first thing I'd look at if we had to is the new Mini clubman. I'm not sure if it adds enough room but I'd have to look.

I'm 6'6", the Smart is fine for me. I'm surprised you had trouble in a Neon, are they really that small inside?

Lots of times cars are different. My mom has a Nissan Murano that I've driven a few times. I cannot get comfortable in it, and it has less headroom than the Mini. I think it's because of a lack of seat adjustments, and it can't be lowered enough (it seems like there should be room). I've had other rentals where it's tough to get comfortable, so I could see how someone could have trouble with a Neon...

First car, 1978 Honda Civic CVCC, red and I loved it.
Second, 1985 VW GTI in silver, was good until it kissed a jersey wall at 65 MPH
Third, 1985 Nissan 4x4, red, but not all jacked up.
Fourth, 1996 SAAB SPG, loved this car.
Fifth, 1996 Toyota 4Runner, blue and not all tricked out.
Sixth, 1985 SAAB 900 Turbo 4 door, silver
Seventh, 1985 Isuzu Trooper, Blue
Eighth, 1968 International Harvester Scout, great beach buggy.
Ninth, 1985 Subaru GL, black. One of my least favorite cars.

contd.
Tenth, 1996 Plymouth Neon, blue. Not as bad as you would think, but always felt a bit like a dental hygenist driving it.
Eleventh, 1985 Volvo 240 Turbo Wagon, Metallic Grey. Loved it, but blew the turbo after about 3 months and it was a total write-off.
Twelevth, 1991 Nissan Maxima, grey. Liked this car.
Thirteenth, 1996 Chrysler Concord, white. Hated it, hated it, hated it.
Fourteenth, 2003 Honda Civic Si, silver. Liked it ok, but a bit more dull than it should have been.
Fifteenth and current car, 2001 BMW 325i. Love this car to bits, but it's a bit small. We do quite a bit of driving long distance on the motorways on weekends and holidays around the UK and the backseat is a bit cramped for the kids.
Thinking about one of these, 2003 SAAB 95, as a replacement. Not as fun as the BMW, or as solidly made, but you get a lot for the money. Brits don't seem to like them much so you can pick one up very inexpensively.
Also had one of these, Ninja 600- never really took to it. Felt like a Camaro on two wheels.
Traded the Ninja for one of these, which I loved. Unfortunately, a driver not paying attention nearly ended my life and I gave up on riding a bike- scared me good.
I've had a few cars.

None of these pictures are mine. I ever bought only one new car. Will never ever do it again. Waste of money. My current car cost me $2000. All are stick shifts : I am too young to drive slushbox.
1st 1989 Dodge Colt, white. A fun spunky little hatchback
2nd 1993 Dodge Shadow. More powerful, but not as much fun. Not reliable
3rd
1999 VW GTI. Somewhat fun to drive, but a giant POS. My only new car.
Current 1999 Mazda Protege. Fun to drive, 38 MPG, CHEAP.
Forgot my truck!!
1998 Ranger. Surprinsingly reliable.

You won't see any beaters in Ontario. Freakin' laws are too strict.
Every second year it has to go for a exhaust emissions test. Fails and you have to pay 200 dollars extra for your plates and have to get it fixed. Could be a whole engine replacement. And they set up roadside mechanical fitness checkpoints. Breaks, tires, bearings, did I say breaks, breaks, breaks? If it doesn't pass they rip the plates off.
Of course the ones they pick on the most to pull over are the older beaters.
But next door in Michigan is another story. I've seen battered cars with no doors driving around. Even some of the cop cars are junk on wheels.

With the Americans doing rather badly in cars, I have not seen much of Chrysler and Jeep lately at my beautiful garage within the Mercedes empire. LOL
A Mercedes-Benz A200 Turbo here. It's super-comfortable and quality is top notch (pict found somewhere, not my car)
Hurray for those Smarties ! I almost picked the Forfour Brabus but ended into the A.

First vehicle was a hand-me-down firetruck red 1988 Chevy Suburban Silverado 25, 3/4 ton chassis.
Close to this but red, duh, and without the 4" lift kit. Beast of a truck, sucked gas like you wouldn't believe. Sold for next car.
Second was a 1992 VW Jetta GL 5-speed.
Complete POS. Previous owner chopped the springs to lower it and it had pathetic compression. Fun to drive though. Fell asleep at the wheel and put her into a tree.
Third was a 1992 Nissan Pickup 2WD.
Incredibly reliable. Great on gas, great turning radius, but watch out for foul weather! 16 yr old girl plowed her Buick into it and that was the end of Mr. Nissan.
Fourth was a 1995 Dodge Intrepid.
Best value so far. Good power, good mileage, very roomy. I drove this car to Miami and Chicago with no problems. She still runs perfectly as my former roomate's car, nearing 200K miles. This picture was actually taken in Winterhaven, Florida.
Current vehicle is a 2000 GMC Sonoma 4x4.
Ballsy, sucks gas, great in the snow. A real workhorse. Needed some work, but most was covered under my warranty. Custom made rack by yours truly.

My first car was a 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo. Pretty reliable, but it was starting to have a few issues at its age (195k miles when I sold it) so I got a newer Accord, specifically a 1999 EX-V6 coupe. I love it, great car, very comfortable and good power. Took this pic a few weeks ago.

Ladies and nerds, I present to you The Lateralus Mobile
Stats: 1993 Buick Park Avenue. 182k miles. Leather. Radio. Speed.
When people ask me about my Buick's custom look, I tell them the truth; It's a rejected Transformer. They went with Bumble Bee.
Technically, driving without a bumper is illegal here. But some cars just don't care about the law.

I don't think is as much the available space as the proportions. To reach the steering wheel comfortably, I had to have the seat too close to the pedals. Not too cool when you have some "problematic" knees...

I'm currently driving a 1996 Holden Commodore wagon which we've owned for 9 years. Approaching 300,000km. Thrashed to within an inch of its life. Time to go!
(not my pics)
Also a 2004 Holden Commodore sedan. Dual fuel (petrol and LPG). Been keyed 3 times in 12 months (thankyouverymuch). Also time to go.
Looking at getting a new Commodore Sportswagon when they come out...
and maybe a new(ish) Golf GTI to run around in, although the 2009 Scirocco...
Hmm...

My modest cars
2002 Honda Civic LX - 56k miles
1988 Buick LeSabre - 160k miles
stole these images - the civic is silver and the buick is maroon
if the buick didn't suck so much gas i'd love another one with about 50k on it and run it another 100k

I would NEVER EVER recommend a Commander, while it is nice, and it is the top model, leather, rear camera, navi, 3rd row seats, power lift gate, 4.7V8, etc. etc. It is a total POS and I can't see it ever lasting 100K miles, its been in the shop twice and it has 16K on it!
Trust me, I don't much care for most American cars, especially the ones that get 13MPG when I baby it...
