Hi

I had the chance to play with the new iMacs 17" and 20" at Apple Expo and it is so cool. They had a few dozens of pictures in iPhoto and the scrolling and opening of some pictures was very fast.

If you have any question, just ask

I have not heard anything about GPU. Although Unreal was loaded on every iMac. I tried it and it was ok. I did not check the frame rates etc however. But a bit further was the apple game booth. And of course, there were only G5 2*2.5 Ghz with 256MB video card (on 23 inches display).

What is the sleep light like, I believe it is on the front in line with the power button on the rear (helps you find the button). Does it glow white when the machine is on and fade in and out when asleep?

Also any idea where the Microphone is?

1. How smooth is the screen pivoting mechanism?
2. Do disks pop out with enough speed to occasionally fall to the table?
3. What is the viewing angle of the screen?

Do they have Classic? What version of OSX was it running? Is the screen adjustable at all? How heavy is it? Is it as quiet as advertised? Was it toasty warm? Does the Jay Leno chin stick out as much in person?

I'd also like to know what the viewing angle is like on the display - particularly the 20" model.

Typical viewing angle:

* 17-inch models
o 120 horizontal
o 90 vertical
* 20-inch model
o 170 horizontal
o 170 vertical

Uh so many questions ...

Ok first, the noise issue. They said the iMac would produce 25 decibels, which is as loud as a whisper. Now it was impossible to verify that at the expo because there were so many people and the noise level is very high.

About the microphone, I've been told by an apple guy it was located right where the speakers are (base of the screen). The sound output didn't seem great, but once again it is hard to tell on a booth so crowded.

Viewing angle seemed ok to me. I am very sensible to sreen quality and I did not notice anything special. The 17 looks really tiny in all that white facade The 20" is a real beauty. the only thing that you see is that big screen, the shiny white enclosure and the foot. On the back, it is written in big gray letters "iMac". Very clean.

Parky -) sorry I didn't try to put an imac to sleep since there were 10 people behind me waiting to play with it I wouldn't have dared.

F1000 : the screen mechanism is awesome. The screen can be adjusted up and down, just by pushing it gently. As easy as on the previous imac model. And it is very stable on its foot. And no idea about how it ejects the CD. I guess it is not different from the other systems.

I haven't seen classic on the new iMac.

Check those 2 links : Picture one Link two
