Friends!

As I try to start IE 4.5 or OE 5 I suddenly get the type 3 error message and the apps quit. Norton finds nothing, desktop is rebuilt and my hair is getting grey(er) - what's wrong???

Sounds like one of the Microsoft libraries is freaked out.

Do you have any other Microsoft apps?

If you do, then sometimes one Microsoft application installs an earlier version than another Microsoft application has to have, then things go haywire.

Try throwing out Microsoft libraries in the extensions folders. Either IE 4.5 or OE 5.0 will then reinstall them the next time you launch.

As always, back up your extensions folder before you go messing with it in case you make it worse than it was before.

Well, now I have tried that, reinstalled all MS Internet software as well as MacOS 8.6, zapped PRAM, crossed my fingers and... now I get type 2 errors instead!

Am I progressing, no I don't think so.

Pleeeease, say the magic world!

I have a similar post in the Outlook forum. You may want to keep your eye on it as well in case someone offers a suggestion.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Perhaps the magic word just were said anyway - Microsoft Libs - I tossed every MS Office 98 Lib out (the folder in the System folder) and started Excel. It reinstalled Office Libs and then, first OE didn't start and then suddenly it did???

It doesn't behave like anything I've ever seen but now it runs.

I'm amazed but I don't dare to reinstall Explorer 4.5 over this now - I'll wait for 5.0.

Thanx for your help!

Andreas

Delete your Internet Preferences file (System Folder -> Preferences).
