You already know what was announced at this year's WWDC. True, if you didn't watch the keynote or read our analysis then there's likely to be a lot you didn't catch but overall, you know. So this week's One More Thing laboriously details everything all over again. Oh, yes. We'll read out every one of Apple's slides. That'll be good.

Or we can do this instead: look at what we think mattered and what we know mattered to us. Co-hosts Malcolm Owen and William Gallagher disagree almost entirely on what was important but they've each got evidence to back their opinions up.

Opinions that include the hardest Thingies of the Week in all 43 episodes so far. For this time, the Thingy has to be one single thing from WWDC's announcements: how do you compress two hours and possibly hundreds of new features into just one single favorite? Surprisingly easily. Just you have a listen.

Again, Apple disappoints. Look at these improvements and you'll notice a common pattern. They're for people who dart from one device to another, feeling they don't have time to tap a few times on screen, that they must talk to Siri. Does Apple add features for those who work, hour after hour, at our desks? No. Does it make any effort to fix that horrid Hunspell spelling checker? No, it's "open source" and hence virtuous for some reason I never understand. Will it add a system-wide GREP, so those marvelous features can be part of almost every text app? No, even though in that case open-source code would provide 90% of the labor. This WWDC is like all the others. Lots of flashy gimmicks that look good on stage, but few end up using. There have been no substantial improvements, particularly to the macOS's text-handing capabilities, since about 10.2. Apple's becoming the go-to provider for those with Attention Deficit Disorders. It makes it easy to flit from task to task. It does nothing to make sustained labors easier.

I'm not sure you understand the point of the WWDC -- you know, the Worldwide DEVELOPERS Conference.

This conference was aimed at developers (hence why they spent so much time talking about things like the expansion of the Swift language and the new features that developers can leverage in their OS products [tvOS, watchOS, etc]).

You're probably looking for the "Apple Special Events" where Apple talks about things that are more geared toward the consumers and users of their products, not the developers that help create products.

Regarding the OS feature highlights, nothing you're talking about, Inkling, is flashy, or presents well.

I'd reserve judgement for at least the public beta's feature set.
