Have a brother who uses one of these things and bought a 4GB drive for it. When booting off the 8.0 disk and formatting the drive and installing the OS everything goes sweet.

Then it doesn't boot off the drive. Black screen. Unhappy mac.

Anyone know what he's doing wrong?
Apart from using an LC575 of course

I think there might be a drive size limit with those older macs, that prevents them from booting from a drive over either 2 or 4 gigs. I guess if your drive is something like a 4.1 GB drive, it might be the problem.

There is a size issue, but its not the hardware, its teh software, 8.0 uses the old formatting, HFS, and 8.1 uses the new HFS+ format that lets you use bigger drives and makes better use of these bigger drives. 8.1 update is also free so, go hook it up. You can't go any higher though, 8.1 is the newest OS yoru 575 can use.
