Basically, what I'm trying to do is get a bunch of info about mounted volumes. I can get the vast majority of the info I need by using `df -l' but I also need to get the kind of disk the volume is one. e.g. ATA, Fire Wire, Disk Image etc.
This is quite easily achieved with `diskutil info /dev/disk#s#' - in fact it gives absolutely all the information I need, and more. However, it's about as fast as an upside-down tortoise nailed to the floor... Using `df' I get the info virtually instantaneously, but diskutil takes between 3 and 4 seconds for each volume/device. Speed's kind of an issue, but I suppose I can make do...
So, anyone got any suggestions as to how else to get the protocol? I'm asking here because it's command line tools I'm using at the moment, but any other suggestions are welcome
