Liberal minority for sure. I usually vote a week ahead in the advance polls in every election I can, but just couldn't be arsed last weekend, so I gotta do it when I get home from work today.

What's the attraction of the Conservatives, anyway?

Honestly, I've been doing some reading and I've talked to friends and family Up There, and I don't get it.

The conservatives are essentially Canadian republicans. The bitter taste of Mulroney is still strong on my tongue, so it's not likely I'll ever vote in that direction in my lifetime.

The way I see it is that a vote for the Liberal is essentially saying it's ok if our politicians lie and then try to cover it up.

BTW, it seems it's pretty much a lock in my area for an NDP seat, despite being a downtown Toronto riding. (It's Olivia Chow's riding, and she's Jack Layton's wife.)

Martin was traditionally more right wing than the average Liberal.

Anyways, it's probably more of a reaction to direct events than philosophy. ie. Federal Liberal scandal, and tax increases by the Ontario Liberals.

FYI, Canadian socialism is consistantly being undermined and attacked, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work because its heart is the wrong place (unlike some greedy philosophies I know).

The basic difference between the Conservatives and the Bloc would be that the Bloc would devolve the role of the federal government to its (il)logical conclusion. Both would undermine the role of federalism in Canada, one overtly, the other surreptitiously.

Yeah, but that's because of the time zone. Essentially only the Maritimes have been counted. The West (and Central Canada) is where the Conservatives will win the seats.

They already have 133 seats, they only need 22 more to form a majority.

Even given the Conservatives' strength in the west, I don't see them gaining 71 seats to form a majority, or even the 49 they'd need to beat out the Liberals.

cbc has them elected in 104 and leading in 28. I am hoping for a liberal minority myself.

Some of the projections I don't get. They say Valeri has been defeated but only 100 of the 234 polls have reported. How does that work? I am glad he is losing, serves them right for the Copps episode.

It seems I may be mistaken. I had forgotten the history of this riding... City politics don't translate into federal politics.

The Liberal guy has defeated Olivia Chow before, and is currently leading.

EDIT: Yup. Ianno has defeated Chow again. Layton's wife ain't going to Ottawa...

As expected, my mom's riding in Saskatchewan went Liberal, with Ralph Goodale.

However, I'm a little surprised that the entire rest of the province is going Conservative, esp. since Saskatchewan is the birthplace of the NDP. Then again I had been hearing that the NDP is esp. weak in Saskatchewan this time around (obviously).

Hmmm... Interesting. The Conservatives are doing worse than I had expected. The Liberals have 134 (won or leading) and the NDP have 25 (won or leading), for a total of 159 seats.

A majority would be 155 seats. It's quite possible that this minority Liberal government will have enough seats in the NDP to form a (rocky) alliance, bypassing the Bloc and the Conservatives altogether.

Methinks the country has just shifted to the left...
