http://adium.sourceforge.net/

It says you can download a beta, and the source for 2.0. There's also a link for screenshots, but none of them seem to link to anything for me.

Build it from CVS.

There should be daily CVS snapshots, tho. Hmmm.

I built it like 2 months ago, and it looked good.

Adium 2.0's so flexible that it can be designed to look like iChat.

Nebagakid, the icon's same... you know, that adium duck that I made so long time ago. When Adium 2.0 is nearing feature-complete, I'll start designing some icons/graphics for it.

Just as the river flows, so does Adium 2 get better with each day. The doubters say Adium 2 won't be out until Mac OS XI, but lo, then it shall be king of Mac OS XI IM clients. To the bank, you can take these words.

I made a build yesterday and it's almost to the point where I can use it all the time.

It seems lately Adam has been picking up the pace.

Master Betts was, from the beginning of the mythical Adium 2.0, the one who would make the icons.

Quack.

Open Terminal and paste:
Code:
cvs -d:pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/adium login
Hit return when it asks for password, then paste:
Code:
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/adium co adium
This will download the binaries to your home directory.

(damn smilies...the are ':' and 'p' together, or just hit reply to this and copy from there)

Meh. Adium 2's buddy list... just doesn't feel the same. It's getting better, though. I remember I tried a build a few months ago and I didn't like it one bit... this one's getting better

Keep up the good work, Adam Iser.

Wow so this is the first thing I've ever compiled. It was surprisingly easy. I've even started ****ing around with it in interface builder. Wow. a whole new world for me. I like it, ichat integration is kind of nice. Now if I could get it so that when I select buddy list in the ichat menuling, it brings up adium instead, I'd be set.

That'w what I meant, sorry...I didn't view Adium 2.0 having "logging" implemented until the log viewer was done though.

I'll compile it right now and put it on a server for you tomorrow if you haven't gotten it by then.

I think it wouldn't be impossible for them to ask SF to build daily CVS snapshots tarballs...

and it'd rock too, because people w/o pb or dev tools would be able to use it...

Yes, but Adam has repeatedly requested that binaries not be made available. He feels that the need to build it helps to block usage by people who would then complain about it, not realizing that it is only (mabe) alpha-quality.

Not trying to be an ass here but:

Ok, I built it... the only thing different I can see is far less preferences and no way to put the contact list in the tabbed aim window.

Aside from iChat integration (which I admitedly don't understand, partly because it just crashes adium for me), what is the point?
Any awesome planned features or anything?

This is why Adam has requested people not put up binaries. [APi]TheMan, it would be respectful of you not to do so. People, Adium is currently in Alpha. That means before Beta. That means it is missing many features that even 1.6 has. If you want to download it, compile it, and test it, posting reports at the Official Adium Forums or over at the Adium Project Page, please do so. Don't, however, download it expecting to be amazed by new flashy features, because they ain't gonna be there. Just patiently wait until it reaches beta status.

I sincerely apologize for posting the binary, guys.

The only reason in fact that I had any interest to compile the binary in the first place is because someone gave very easy copy/paste instructions on how to access the CVS repository. Otherwise I wouldn't have even cared to visit the Adium website or learn how to use CVS access.

And also that was meant to be a Private Message, I was in a hurry this morning and messed up, not even reading the rest of this thread to see all your very informative posts about why this wouldn't be the right thing to do.

Once again, I apologize, guys. And thanks for your kind and unflaming responses.

ps. If you could edit your posts and remove the URL I'd be very grateful. Thank you.

Tried logging in to d/l the CVS via the instructions in this thread and it didn't let me in. I put the ':' and 'p' where the smiley was (no spaces) but it didn't work. Am I missing something or did the login change?

FROM ADAM ISER:

Linked above are directions on Adium's sourceforge.net CVS page. Basically you need to paste into terminal:

cvs -d:pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/adium login

and

cvs -z3 -d:pserver:[email protected]:/cvsroot/adium co adium

When prompted for a password, just press return. That should download the Adium source to your home directory.

Speaking of improved graphics for adium...is there a way to get the iChat smilies to replace the ones in Adium? Also, where can I get the sounds from AIM for Adium?

i just switched back to Adium and I've forgotten how much more responsive my system is when iChat isn't hoggin all that CPU just resorting the buddy list!
