hey all,
i was tired of watching the grass grow when i burned dvds on my original g5 dual 2.0 with the 4x superdrive so i just bought the 109 bk from owc. when i look in itunes or in dragon burn (toast equivalent) the drive is listed as having top burn speed as 12x for dvd-r and i see no mention of dual layer support anywhere. am i missing something or is there a way to find out if this drive now is supported? i downloaded a firmware flash updater that brought it to 1.55 but still no change. i am running tiger and its latest update.
any help would be really appreciated.

Open System Profiler and look for the drive in there. It will then give the supported formats on the drive.

yes, running profiler shows that the drive is recognized and what firmware version it has, 1.55, but nowhere do i see DL support listed as an option. i know there are people out there with these drives who are getting 16x write speeds. how do they know? is it only while using toast (which i dont have) that you can see this option?

Maybe you need PatchBurn.

I would try the latest version of Toast. I never have a problem with it.

I just installed a Pioneer 109 DL and it wouldn't work because of the face plate that comes stock on the drive which prevents the door to my G5 from opening. I assume that I should be able to remove this faceplate so does anyone have any clues?

I have not installed Tiger yet and when I check sys profiler it shows that burning is not supported.

Thanks for the help.

Steve
