But I just tried and I couldn't log in my account - it kept asking me to enter a word shown in graphics.
My Safari is 1.2.2 (the latest).

Do you have a gmail account? Come to think of it, I don't remember ever having to do the "word in graphics" shebang for that...

Yup I have an account. When I used it with Camino or Firefox, everything went fine. But logging in using Safari 1.2.2 brought me one after another this "graphic test". I'm guessing the support is not quite ready yet.

Ok looks like they fixed the problem - now the graphic test would only show up once. Interestingly if I use Camino the graphic test would not even show up in the first place.

No graphic test here. I had been using Camino since the development picked up significant speed and a new tab code is implemented (unofficially) AND gmail was working properly. Tonight saw a new option of "Remember password for two weeks" which also got rid of the unremembered password problem under Camino. Thinking something must've been updated, opened up Safari, and voila, it is fully supported now.

Question - does anyone know if Google will reset all email addresses when it goes Public?
Also, if someone cares to invite me, please send me some email (in profile), I would appreciate it very much!
Thanks!

If anyone has a spare invite going, I'd love one here too...

I have been using Gmail beta for some time now and it always worked in Safari just fine. Recently they removed the warning about non-supported browser, glad they did it as it was useless, the thing worked.
They added signature support too, one of the first things I requested

Very cool.
Can you set auto-away messages by chance as well?

Is anyone having trouble loading the main gmail page in safari with a Gmail account? I have it set to auto-login, but I can only load http://gmail.google.com/gmail about 50% of the time. It usually gets stuck on "Loading..." in small text with a red background.
Aside from this issue, I find Gmail to be really cool. It's like a true metadata-based email system. I hope Mail incorporates some features from Gmail like using labels to organize messages instead of folders.
The "Conversation" view is really handy too for viewing threads with messages to AND from you. I hope they fix the glitches and clean up the UI a bit. I can't wait until it hits primetime.

I sometimes get the red 'loading' message too.
However for the most part it works well.... it also works on Firefox, and Shiira my No 1 browser of choice...
A great service...

It does flip out a bit on safari, though i'm not sure if that's safari or the service.
However, to their credit, it doesn't mess up my mail when it mis-loads.
Over all i'm really impressed, and even yahoo's recent (yesterday) update won't keep
me on their system, i bet.
But i'll give it a while to see.
Oh. It also flipped out in Firefox for a little while this morning.
Not sure what that was all about.
