Okay, I'm new to Silk and i don't fully understand how to implment it's features to get results that i want. I'm looking to mimic Digital James's Silked System. Any help would be great, i think the font is Eurostile that he used as well.

Thanks,

Highlight Lucinda Grande and hit the original button, highlight Eurostile and hit the replace button. Add Safari to the Global Apps as eurostile will render the bookmarks bar unreadable.

http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...highlight=silk

From some 'mrtew' suggestions I got 'Bank Gothic' and 'Century Gothic'
Still always keeping my eye open for that elusive perfect system font.

You find a near perfect font and then
the finder cuts the top of the letters off - very annoying.

No matter how hard you try, there's always something that looks wrong at some point. That's why I stopped using Silk, it was too frustrating trying to find the perfect font...

Bur for what it's worth, my replacement of choice was Myriad Web...

Is the font installed in your ~users/library/fonts folder?

Sounds odd, but I tried a tip I heard here. If Silk is
not seeing a font, junk the Ape and restart - re-install
and re-enter your registration code and the font should
now show up.

Worth a try if all else fails.

...But you will still have to re-enter your registration
code and then the font should show up.

defaults remove com.unsanity.Silk "Font Cache"

In the terminal. Then reopen the silk prefpane. It may take a while as Silk needs to rebuild its font table.

I've been using Trebuchet MS, it's really good as a system font. I'm always looking for something different though if anyone has any good fonts they know of.

I added Safari in that global list, I still get the above. Also, now it's using that font instead of Geeza Pro on webpages.

Why isn't there an option to have Silk only affect the menubar? That's all I want changed, since a custom font basically ruins Safari.

For some reason Silk only wants to change half of the fonts in my interface. It changes the fonts for the user name, time and battery life and some widgets. It doesn't want to change the fonts in my finder windows and all the menu selections to the left of my menu bar. I don't know what the problem is because it worked a few days ago

This is a bug in cocoa that seems to have to do with some postscript fonts.

.edit - All fixed, I was a couple of days past the trial period. I just purchased it and it works fine. Weird that it wasn't disabled all together

This is intentional. Silk will not disable features that were free in Silk 1.1 when the demo expires.

Was that in response to me? If so...

Lucida Grande > Lucida Grande
Lucida Grande > Font I want

What does that accomplish?

Also, any way to get Safari to use its own specified font for when a webpage lists none, rather than using the replacement font for Lucida Grande in Silk?

EDIT: And the font used in Adium (I'm sure there are more )

Ahh, Thanxx Rosyna

Now that I have the font changed I noticed that it no longer has a dropshadow behind it when viewing text on the desktop. Is there a setting for this or another another haxie that will let me control it?

Rosyna, i know you're as busy as the rest of us, but have you thought about a simple pdf file for Silk? Just some screenies with a caption as an explanation? Might help to clear up some of the confusion with setting up the application.

I too have the issue with the white text on the desktop, Folder Titles, Drives, and info for each.

"Fast Drawing" might draw shadows and outlines correctly and may render Unicode strings correctly, but it may replace fonts in places that are not appropriate and may not replace fonts when appropriate. With "Fast" you might have to create a substitution rule from Lucida Grande to the custom theme font for proper replacement.

after getting all set-up do a restart and zap the PRAM on your machine, everything should look the way you want it to. It does on my machine, From Safari to the desktop items.. Pretty slick if you ask me.
