Just wondering if anyone uses VirtualPC or Wine to check there code in IE for Windows?

How reliable do you think it would be?

Wine is for using Windows programs on Linux. It's pretty useless for Internet Explorer.

VirtualPC works well for testing Internet Explorer on a Mac. Quite a lot of people use it.

I thought Wine was ported to Darwin it's something like DWine or DarwinWine now.

Another thought/question:

It would be great if someone were to create an online site where you could feed a url of the site your creating and have the server render the page as it would appear on specific platforms at certain screen sizes in certain browsers and spit back a screen capture for the developer to compare and correct for.

A Visual Validator.

Anything like this exist?

VPC:
don't bother. buy a really cheap $300 pc if possible.

unless you need moblity then if you have lots of ram and the faster PB it might be ok for some testing.

Browsercam.com ? something like that?

PS: if you buy a cheap PC then put it on the network, go to microsoft.com/mac and download "Remote Desktop Connectoin" and use it to "access" your pc in a window on your mac.

much much much faster.

again, this works only if you do not need mobility.

I think I'l pass on the pc ... I just don't want the extra crap. I'm pretty slim and mobile with my PB.

Browsercam.com looks great, but it's not free :-(

I think this is what I was looking at instead of a purchase of VPC:

Yes, and if you actually read the website you'll find in the FAQ:
Is the Darwin/Mac OS X release of Wine currently able to run Windows executable (.exe)?
No. We are currently working on integrating an x86 emulator in wine in order to run Win32 exe on a PowerPC Box. But on Darwin-x86 a Win32 .exe should run within wine with a limited effort.

I worked using VirtualPC to test on IE for a long, long time and it works great. You should have no issues, and everything should appear just as it would on an actual PC.

If you get into hardcore development though, it can be slow and the transfers eventually too cumbersome to work around. I have found it easier to work with both of them side-by-side, with the PC as a server (enabling me to develop ColdFusion applications -- my language of choice).

If you can though, avoid the dark side as much as possible!

Later on!

Now that's not true. But in this case, since the open source alternative just doesn't work, he'll have to look elsewhere.
