You are correct, it is a customized congifuration
It's not really that "custom" persay
It doesn't have racing stripes down the side or engravings
anything thats not default.

Schalliol - call Apple and make sure your upgrade order isn't stuck in the system. Mine was and so I dropped back to a 2.0 last week and it just shipped..
The rep said the request to go to 2.16 was sent, but no answer was ever received..

Original order 1.83 jan 10@11:15am PST
upgraded order to 2.16 right after speed bumps announced
Dropped back to 2.0 after talking to reps again 2/21
Interesting. I hope this isn't the case. Since est ship is tomorrow I'll probably wait to see. When you got yours "stuck" did the Apple Store show it as a 2.16 or 2?

Then 28th February when they upgraded it to 2.0ghz, and now March 20th having changed it to 2.16ghz (in the UK, they don't let you amend your order if you pay with a debit card as the amount is charged as soon as you order it).

I had originally ordered Jan 26th with a business leasing deal through Apple's Financial department but the order got stuck somewhere and nothing happened for two weeks. I have a feeling that after a few internal mistakes that they have pushed my order up the list a little. I know of 3 other friends who ordered in January that have also recieved the shipping info yesterday/today so your's should be coming very soon too

"When you got yours "stuck" did the Apple Store show it as a 2.16 or 2?"

Mine always showed the 2.0, that's why I kept asking the reps what was going on. "Show details" always showed a 2.0.

I originally ordered the 1.83 Ghz model, seems that when my credit approval was ok'd they simply forgot to let Apple Store know that everything was ok to go... Doh!

Since mine did show the upgraded 2.16, I guess it didn't get stuck in the same way at least. Now that today is shipping day (may have passed it if you consider the time in Asia) I've emailed me rep to find out what's up. Has anyone who pre-ordered in Jan and upgraded to the 2.16, other than me, not gotten a notification?

Well - I did not upgrade (just stuck with the 2.0) - but I ordered on Jan 12 and still have NO word on shipping.

That's great I'm excited for you. I too am getting the MBP 1.83 with 1gb of ram. I upped the hard drive to the 100 and also ordered a modem. Will that slow the order does anyone think? I placed my order on Feb 8th. This waiting is driving me nuts. I'm reading now that several stores have gotten deliveries. Arrgh.

On shipping times - my Book left China yesterday morning and is at the Boulder depot right now. I'll pick it up in a few hours, as I have to take some parts for my Harley to the shop that is down the street from the depot.
I'll post after I get it and see if I can put drooool into words..

just received a shipment notification this morning.

originally ordered a 1.67 w/ 100gb 7200hd on Jan 28, 2006 at 07:04 PM PST with an original ship date of 2/24. Was upgraded to the 1.83 and ship date changed to 3/8 (to add even more credibility to Timetheus' theory). As of this morning, in transit in Shanghai!

Mine actually shipped on the original ship estimation, Feb. 28th, after being changed to march 8th. That theory doesn't hold for me..can't wait to get my hands on it..

zac4mac - did you pay for overnight shipping or is everyone's shipping the same regardless of how much they paid? I have standard shipping on mine..wondering if might might make it as fast as yours did..

Does the shipment notification show up on the order status page as well? Or is it an email?

I ordered January 25th (1.67->1.83ghz) model...wondering why it's not showing up as anything on the order status page.

Original ship date was Feb. 24th, now March 8th.

Well, my Feb 1 order just shipped. Expected delivery is on Friday Mar 3.

Originally ordered a 1.83 with a 120 gb hard drive upgrade, then the processor was upgraded to the 2.0 and the shipping date was changed to today, Feb 28. Then I decided on Feb 15 to upgrade the processor to the 2.16, and the shipping date was pushed out to Mar 3.

So it left 3 days early and is expected here one week before I expected it.

BTW, I checked my order status this morning and it was still giving me the option to cancel the order!

Here it is... first post on the new MBP. Keyboard feels nice and crisp, backlight is waayyy cool, especially after I destroyed an Apple keyboard several years ago installing an electroluminescent sheet under the keys... I'm kind of surprised I'm able to access the internet thru our industrial grade firewall. Tyco corporate has a lot of paranoia.

Hang in there everybody waiting, this little monster is worth the wait. The fit of the lid could be a little better, but make no mistake, this is a beautiful Mac.

Thank you, Santa Steve

YES!!!!!
FINALLY!!!!!

Mine shipped Today!

1.83 with 100GB 7200RPM, and 512mb RAM (I have the RAM to upgrade it with already here)!

Ordered on Jan 25th around noon.

I think the neighbors actually heard me shout when I saw the e-mail.

BTW, I only ordered the standard free shipping, and my estimated arrival is March 3rd (Friday) according to Apple (I live in Iowa). Hopefully FedEx agrees.

Apparently my "nine day" theory wasn't too far off.

Jon Unhappy:

While yesterday I was told that it was being prepared for shipment, I find this today. Perhaps it will ship today or tomorrow, but this is frustrating. I ordered JUST after the keynote ended (I think one person here ordered before I did) and elected to do the 2.16, yet they didn't hit the new ship by date provided of 2/28.

Has anyone else who had an order in just after the keynote not yet received a shipment notification? What about people who ordered units even later? This is the first I know of Apple going beyond the estimated time following the special announcement which brought the upgrades in. Any one else shown Apple going over the date?

Just the image above. Shows the delayed date. It confuses me that they want my response. They should assume I want to continue unless I cancel. It's been near;y 2 months, would I likely want to cancel for a week delay. Also, I womder if they lied when they said yesterday it was gettiing prepared for shipment, or whether this info isn't told to the ordering dept.

Due to an unexpected delay, we are unable to ship the following
That's crummy.

I ordered a 1.8GHz on Feb 6 with 7200 rpm drive. Original ship date was Feb 28.

When the cpu bump happened, the ship date was pushed to March 3rd.

I got the email today from Apple that it has shipped and is estimated to arrive on the 6th, despite having paid for 2 day shipping. I'll ignore that and just watch the Fedex thing update to get a better clue. It shipped from SHANGHAI CN.

I'm very excited about my wife's MacBookPro finally shipping. She's also very excited about it which invigorates the husbandly smile. She's got a printing of a couple pages of a MacWorld Zinio magazine hanging above her desk.

She's a recent convert. When I moved from an iBook to a Powermac, she ditched her Compaq, took posession of the iBook and has enjoyed it ever since. Yay! I don't have to fix her damn Windows anymore! The iBook doesn't suit her needs though, so we had to order something new. She'll be using the MBP for writing, blogging, managing her photography and playing World of Warcraft with me. Fun!

I doubt thats it, but its a little fishy...

Sweet Jesus -- I'm sorry for stirring up such a consternation. It was the same error -- repeated -- and the guy admitted he should have known better. I had no idea World War III would erupt out of it. In retrospect, I wish I'd PM'ed him. My objective was not to be a dick but rather to make a small effort to raise the post quality to a sixth grade level. Obviously that was a mistake, and you can rest assured it won't happen again. I'm as happy as you are to discuss the computer side of things. I really didn't think a single correction of a glaring grammatical error would de-rail a thread (and continue to de-rail it days after no one was talking about it anymore...)

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you Borman. I'm hoping it will make it by tomorrow because I've heard of a lot of people's coming a day earlier than FedEx's estimation. It will be here soon enough

If apple’s order fulfillment pace is about on par with how many orders they were receiving, it looks like if I’m lucky mine might ship in a week or so, as I ordered it on Feb. 14 (after canceling a Jan. 10 order). I hope it does ship next week! Man I counted down the days until Feb 15 only to cancel and re-order a 2.16 the day before. No one to blame but me for the extra waiting time I wonder if I ordered a Mac Mini if it would arrive before the MacBook Pro....

-_- Apple needs to stop saying "shipping now" on their MBPs, damn false advertising, lol. But I bet there won't be a back order for their Ipod Hi-Fi ahahahaahah
