Are ALL Mac Games Made For Metrosexuals?

I did some preliminary searching and found no shoot-em-up, war, combat oriented Mac games online.

In my local discount stores they have none.

Should I switch to PC to find fulfillment or are there any Mac game makers with balls?

(And no, I don't mean the 'fun' little multi-colored, multi-cultural balls that roll around some faerie land maze. )

I'm not really a gamer but when I went to the store and bought a controller but no games there I took the controller back and just gave up for the time being. I'm not a 'gamey' kind of guy. But when I saw the banner ad for mac fun or whatever, I clicked on it and saw zip.

I'll look for call of duty. Thanks.

Hahahaha!!!

Is this little hissy fit because I commented on your unfamiliarity with world affairs or something despite your having been a regular P/L poster?

As I said, I'm not a gamer but I am willing to try. Thanks for your question.

If there had been war games or combat games or such things that worked with a controller I'd have been all set, I guess. But if I saw I needed some other kind of device I'd have bought that, instead. It didn't matter because I found nada.

But I am heartened by a couple of the responses here and will give them a try.

Thanks for your question.

Most computer games work with (and are intended for) a keyboard and mouse.

A quick perusal of this forum or http://insidemacgames.com/ would have answered your question. Or even the 2 main Mac game porters sites http://www.aspyr.com/product/product_listing or http://www.destineerstudios.com/macs...c_listing.html

I remember back in the mid to late '90s when PC users got games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and Pitfall:The Mayan Adventure, Sonic the Hedgehog even the MegaMan X series........................... I was soooooooooo jealous (not being sarcastic; i really wanted those games).

Sure I realized that they were already available on console systems like the SNES, PSX, and Saturn....... but to have the PC guys get games from the likes of Capcom, Activision, Sega, and even Konami, I felt that the Mac would never, ever be the place for gamers like me.

Have things changed since then? Well.... i'd like to think so.... but the selection is still limited, in terms of boxed retail games for Macs. If only more big-name developers like the ones i mentioned above ported some of their old, recent, and future games to the Mac.

But as far as 3d first-person shooters go, there have been a few that really stood out for me over the years: Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force I, Marathon Trilogy, Quake (I-IV), UT, Duke N. 3D, and heck..... even all the way back to Wolfenstein 3D.

I've never been much of a fan for RTS games like Warcraft or Myth, but those were alright and kept me gaming for quite a while.

I'm more of a 2-d platformer (Castlevania, Prince of Persia, Zelda, Abuse, Mega Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, Strider)

Don't bully me, I got an Uzi... HOO-HAH!

After I bought my Dell this summer (my only PC) I went over to the PC game isle. To my surprise, I found that there are few games I'm interested in that are not available for the Mac. So I don't thiink you're looking in the right places. The only regular computer store that stocks Mac titles is CompUSA.

Although i both enjoy playing tactical/war/realism shooters and shave my armpits it's true that many of the latest and greatest titles(any genre) aren't available for the Mac. On the other hand there aren't enough titles for the PC that aren't available for the Mac to justify buying a whole system just to play these titles. So i settled for a Xbox 360.

Rainbow Six 3, although a few years old, might be another title worth checking.

Here's a little list of games I CURRENTLY have on my Mac (I have had to dump some to make room for others):

AlephOne.app
Aliens vs. Predator™ ƒ
American McGee's Alice (9 or X)
Apeiron X
Armageddon 1.1
Army Operations 2.3.0.app
Atomic Cannon
BloodRayne
Duke Nukem 3D
Doom 3
Elite Force II
Ghost Recon - Desert Siege
Giants
Halo Demo
Heretic II (9 or X)
Hexen II (9 or X)
ioquake3
James Bond 007 Nightfire
LEGO Star Wars Demo
Marathon 2
Max Payne
Midnight Mansion 1.0.6
No One Lives Forever
No One Lives Forever 2
Oni (9 or X)
Quake (for X)
Quake 2 (for X)
Quake 3 (for X)
Quake 4
Rainbow Six 3 - Raven Shield
Red Faction
Sin
Soldier of Fortune II
Splinter Cell
Stubbs the Zombie
TenebraeQuake (for X)
GLQuake (for X)
True Crime
Unreal Tournament (for X)
Unreal Tournament 2003 Demo.app
Return to Castle Wolfenstein (9 or X)

and for OS9 only :

Deus Ex
ALL the DOOM series & EVERY single commercially available homebrew level available !
Driver
DS9 The Fallen
Elite Force
Future Cop: LAPD
Hexen
Klingon Honor Guard
Mechwarrior 2
Shadow Warrior
Star Trek TNG: A Final Unity
Tomb Raider 2
Tomb Raider Chronicles
TIE Fighter
Unreal
Unreal Tournament
Wolfenstein (original)

Most of them are really great games, there are a couple that I think suck, not because of a poor plot, but because of being unable to re-map keys (see ONI*), or playability (see TRUE CRIME), or sound being fu**ed up (like in HEAVY METAL: FAKK).

I don't think there are any metrosexual games listed there.

*To be able to use different keys in ONI takes some playing with a text editor and the preferences file before running the game for the first time, but otherwise, that game TRULY ROCKS !
Gee, I hope they're friendly..........

Or you can turn on your friend in co-op mode playing "Streets of Rage".
