So here`s the problem.
I gotta friend with a LC II that crashes whenever he starts it.So I went and downloaded OS 6 for him.
So how do I get it from my Performa to his LC II??

Brought to you by the Performa 6320
with 48mb ram and a StarMax 3000/160 with 96mb ram and both on OS 8.1
And of course Netscape 4.79

Copy the system files from the installer disk to the floppy disk, but you need System 7.x to active the system folder.
OR
Use the System 6 installer, install on the floppy, and the installer will automatically active the system folder even on OS 8.x or 9.x.

You don't need 400K floppy disk, the LCII's floppy drive is 1.4M.

Big difference. To the best of my knowledge, non-Macintoshes can't run any version of the Macintosh system. If it's an Apple IIGS, you might want to try to find the long-discontinued GSOS, which gives it Mac-like capabilities.
Good luck!

version 6.0.1 of the apple IIgs system software:
ftp://ftp.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Apple_II/
it's a 7-part disk image, so you'll need 7 disks. see what kind of floppy drive your friend has. if it's a 3.5" drive, you're in luck, and you can make the prodos-formatted disks for him. if it's 5.25", it'll be tougher, but can still be done if you have an external 5.25" floppy drive. in fact (not sure here), you might even be able to hook his 5.25" external drive to your performa, if yours has an external-floppy connector on the back.

If it is an Apple ][ GS, you must remember that these machines only recognize the 800k DS/DD disks. If using newer floppys, you will have to cover the other hole (opposite of the write-protect notch) with tape and re-format them as 800k ProDOS disks.
Good Luck. GS/OS System 6.0.1 was truly cool to play with! I still play with it on my Beige G3 via the ultimate Apple ][GS emulator called "Bernie To The Rescue"... available at:

I managed to download the system and put it on floppys.
I didn`t know about the tape trick to get 800k formatting(I went through all mine until I found any that would let me format them at 800k)(Hey,ya gotta learn somewhere).
My friend lives out in the boonies (about 20 miles from town)(and no phone),so I`m still waiting to hear if it worked.
Thanks for the education guys.
