Ok,before anybody starts getting nit-picky about proper forums and such, keep in mind that I`ve asked this question in atleast a half a dozen different forums and sites and I haven`t gotten a yes,no or even a bite me out of anyone.
I have a NEC(internal)CDROM,model CDR-271,Will it work in a StarMax 3000/160?

i dont have all of nec's model numbers memorized, and i doubt anyone else does.

I have put many different models of CD-Rom into various machines. As long as its SCSI and you have a SCSI CD-ROM, it will work with the proper drivers. Your particular model sounds like an older model drive from Apple computer's around the time of the 7600 or so.

I've even done the same with IDE CD-ROMs. The interface is the biggest factor, then the drivers.

If it doesn't mount CDs with the standard software get 3rd party drivers from FWB or other vendors. Good luck.

It should work no problem. The StarMax has IDE, the drive is IDE, just make sure you have good Master/Slave relationships among your devices.

Make sure only one master or slave is connected to the bus. You can only one of each.

A quick check in Google's USENET archives didn't show any issues with that particular match, but I did find jumper settings in case your drive doesn't have them.

I`ve never installed a CDROM before so I wanted to make sure I wouldn`t screw anything up.And I needed the jumper settings.
Thanks everybody.

Alright, I`ll admit it. I was being too paranoid ( I`ve had more than my share of crashes and bombs ) .I just stuck it in and damm if it didn`t work. Thought for sure it was going to start a melt down or an instant hard drive erase or sumtin.
Thanks for the support.
