I debated whether to have the iMac perched on top of that platform or not. I did the same thing as you - put it up high. I wonder if it'd be nicer to have it lower, though.

Yep,definately worth the price! Im actually thinking of taking off the top shelf to see how it would work out.

It all just fits great under the stairs in my lounge.

It's a great talking point when I have visitors and it's handy when I need it.

Nothing fancy here. The desk is an $80 one from office max. Fits well in my studio apartment and I'm able to stick some drawers in the area where the CPU would normally go and the shelf above the printer is just the right size to stick my cable modem, router, and a spindle of CD-Rs.
17" 1ghz iMac with 768mb ram.

Nice setup. Being able to do what you did in a small space is what the iMac is about. Small foot -- huge head.

Yup, when I sold my Dell, that's the only thing I kept from it.

The Samsung ML-1710 I like a lot, especially for what I paid for it. (a little over $100 after rebate). It has drivers for mac, but if you want to hook it to an Airport base, I don't think it's supported. I just share it from my imac so I can still print from the iBook or Sony clie.

deboerjo, very cool way to keep your old iMac going. Have you ever thought about making some kind of crazy custom 'part-holder' for all those iMac guts yourself? Maybe in acrylic glass?

'been fiddling with that. There's two things on my to-do list with that system. Get it in some kind of enclosure, and get soft power working. For the enclosure, I'm not great at metalworking, I'm trying to find a case that has a removable motherboard tray (like some old LPX style cases that some clones used) that leaves a big gaping hole in the back of the case when removed. Then I'd just mount the iMac's entire motherboard tray in it without having to cut anything up. As for softpower, I've figured out what I have to do there (adopt the iMac's oddball 2.75V active-high power signal to ATX's standard TTL 5V active-low), I just haven't botherd to buy the parts and wire it up, 'cause turning it off manually at the switch on the back of the power supply isn't as much of a pain as I thought it'd be.

question. you know the speakers that come with the sunflower? the ball shaped speakers? do they work with revision c 12inch powerbooks? I always wanted those speakers cause they loook soooooo cooooool *(more so than the creatures and soundsticks are too pricey)

No they won't. The speakers have an Apple Pro Speaker plug, and the PowerBook only has a normal audio out.

Cheers they function quite well use teleport for one keyboard control of macs pretty cool even though it is a bit buggy...

Would love to see true dual screen ie can stretch an open document over two screens. that would be cool but that would need some soldering!!!

The win is a Dell optiplex with dual screen graphics card it is new so it is still quite fast. I obviously race macs and PC everyday. There is a difference but not much. However this is more to do with the way the two machines (even though there are three of them) approach solutions. However mac fans will be glad to hear that 90% of what I need to acieve is done on the Macs. The other 10% I used to do on Virtual PC but it doesn't compre to a real win machine. There are still programs that aren't available for macs some work specfic genetic analysis stuff etc...

The mac strenght comes in simple things like expose. That make such a difference.

Use mac networking to push files to win machine and pull them from quite cool with direct save so can work on document on macs and save them direct to pc.

Would love to do the same with dual imac G5 that would be awesome but convincing the boss to give me an even better setup that would be difficult but we can dream!!!

The sound is extremely good in my opinion, good bass sound for most people. That's what I miss in the new imac G5.... does it have a good sound?
