Yes, I just wanted to mention that.

Rather hard to find in the US, all you get is Mojito (uugh).

I always bringing back Cachaça Pitú when I go to Germany, so I can make my own Caipi.
For some reason, it's rather expensive or hard to find in the US.

Caipirinhas look fantastic. Sadly, apart from vodka, you can't get a single one of those ingredients here.

If you're using vodka, it's a caipiroska. It's only a caipirinha if you use real cachaca. I worked in a high-end latin joint and we had both mojitos and caipirinhas. Unfortunately for me, I think caipirinhas taste like butt, as a direct result of the cachaca. We used two different brands, imported whatever, but I forget what it was. For our mojitos we used various kinds of bacardi, real sugar water, fresh muddled mint and it was served with a sugar cane. Mango mojitos(mango puree added) were pretty nice, other flavors were made thru the use of flavored rums.

I like a good mojito, but they're too "mojito-y" to drink all night.

A properly made mai-tai is good, also getting your allowance of fruit juices. Make sure there's a couple of different rums in there. Serve it with a fresh pineapple wedge.

Espresso martinis are awesome, just have one though. The espresso flavored vodkas out there are great(Van Gogh, they have two of them*), and some place will serve you an espresso martini without a shot of real espresso poured in, with the espresso flavor coming just from the vodka. I prefer a shot of espresso shaken in with my espresso martini though. I will occasionally have some espresso vodka neat or on the rocks, but that's for sippin'.

I like belvedere orange vodka with tonic. I'll muddle an orange slice in as I drink, while scoping for trim.

Don't knock their flavored vodkas till you try them:
Van Gogh Vodka - Super Premium Vodka, Flavored Vodka, and Gin

*Van Gogh makes an espresso vodka, and a DOUBLE espresso vodka. The 'double' variety is caffeinated and coffee colored. Their regular clear espresso flavor is not caffeinated, allowing for a shot of espresso to be poured in.

That's odd. I have never heard of that before.

Maybe that high-end cachaca had a very special flavor.

Cachaca Pitu is really nice and smooth.

By the way, thats alcoholic cider you need.

i must be missing something. where in the world can't you get sugar and lime? and it doesn't use vodka.

From my understanding, it was a popular, run-of-the-mill cachaca. I only pointed out that the restaurant was high-end so people didn't think it was some florida taco place that didn't know what it was doing. : )

(we had no tacos)

South Korea. You can't get fresh limes anywhere. Nor Cachaça.

You can find lemons though. At almost a dollar each.

Like a fuzzy navel but with a little more punch.

Take a fuzzy navel, add a splash of pineapple juice and a shot of Stoli Vanilla. Tastes like an orange creamsicle without being overly sweet. Chicks like it too.

Two fine mixed drinks:

French brandy + tonic -- ice optional and french brandy can be substituted with french calvados

Oh. Let me state there's a bar in Grosse Pointe Michigan that makes their own flavoured vodkas, they have one that is swedish fish (the candy) flavoured. It's ****ing fantastic.

Hendrick's is really good, Redbreast is really good, Zapadores is really good, but if you want a mixed drink...

Highball, Margarita, Daquiri, Bloody Mary... These are drinks you should know and live by (Although, only the Bloody Mary is a vodka drink).

Always use the freshest ingredients you can get your hands on (Never ever substitute lemon juice from a bottle if it calls for sweet and sour mix [Which is just lemon juice and sugar]). But for the basic drinkability test, a highball gets very high marks from me for being so simple and yet drinkable (Ginger ale and whiskey. It doesn't get much simpler than that.)

And Hendrick's gin and tonic with cucumber is amazing.

Get yourself a taste for good beers and you'll never go back...

White Russian. The classic. Also black russian if you don't like your drinks creamy. Don't add coke if you know what's best for you!

That is a good combination, but very dangerous because it is very easy to drink fast. I have finished half a liter of vodka in less than an hour by using that mix and didn't even notice it.

Approach with caution, but it's good stuff.

Poor argument, since alcohol actually helps dehydrate you and interferes with your body's own ability to thermoregulate. If your argument is for a cool drink on a hot day, fine, but ideally then, it should not contain any alcohol at all. At least if your goal is relief from the heat.

And trust me, in central Virginia, it gets hot, and sticky - I hate summer here and tend to head for the A/C through most of July, August and September.
