I'm fairly new to this board and to Macs in general but not to clusters. A coworker mentioned something about a company in Alabama who is about to build a 3300 CPU Mac G5 cluster. From looking at Virginia Tech's site, it looks like it'll be bigger than theirs but nowhere near the size of the Earth Simulator in Tokyo.

Where could I find more info on this? Just curious.

there have been rumors that a company was going to build one that was big, but smaller than VT. I have never heard of any system that was that large

OK. I've found out that Apple isn't leaking anything because they plan to announce the system at the WWDC. It's apparently a company out of Huntsville, AL.

Hmmm, if it were true, and Apple had to supply VT and another company, it would certainly explain the Xserve supply issues...

Marshall Space Flight Center is in Huntsville, AL. Along with a not so insignificant list of NASA and USAF contractors doing heavy R&D work. While it may truly just be a bogus rumor, there ARE folks there that would be able to use that kind of horsepower.

Scubee, you called it.

A 3132 processor supercluster is pretty damn impressive.

I found out who the company was yesterday afternoon but didn't have time to post it here. I've spoken with a V.P. at COLSA Corp. and have a meeting today at 2pm to offer my services. Looks promising. This was the reason for my interest. I'm in Huntsville and in the market for a job.
