I gave the Dock Dividers a try and though it is more organized I find it takes up too much space and makes it look uglier.

I think Apple should allow for light Dock background colors such as standard (as it is now), green, blue, white, etc. to make each Dock look unique, because a lot of them look alike right now.

Exciting.

(Please excuse that foul A-shaped icon in my dock. It's a temporary thing, I swear.)

Here's mine...

As for the dividers, if you add .app to a folders name it tricks the dock into putting it on the app side of the dock. That's how it works for those who missed it.

I'm not sure where to download it. I remember I found it at Mike Matas' .Mac homepage but lost the URL.

i'm spending some time with my dock vertical-left and anchored at the bottom (via tinker tool).

all my apps cooperate with this except IE5. it insists on opening wherever it feels like (ie: under the dock).

is there a fix for this? i mean, i'd like IE5 to open again where i left it.

IE = Bad Carbon Port

There's not much you can do at this time. Best suggestion: switch to Chimera or OmniWeb.

What is that button really meant to do? someone told me its a 'zoom' button, dont quite get it
The zoom button toggles between the "ideal" window size and the "user" window size.

The ideal window size is the size that exactly holds the content of the window. Not more, not less. If you have a 300x200 pixels image for example, it will change the window content size to 300x200 pixels. In the Finder, it resizes the window to show all icons (if possible), but not more.

Usually it doesn't make sense to grow the window to the absolute maximum, show a little bit of content and a lot of white around that. It's not so easy for web browsers though, since web pages usually don't have a fixed content size (so what's ideal is debatable).

If you want to grow a window to the maximum, option-click the zoom button (doesn't work in all apps).
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Sure, here they are:

I'm not sure if it's okay with Mike for me to host it but I'd be glad to remove it asap if asked.

I tried command-shift-4 then hitting space bar and selecting the dock... but selecting the dock doesn't work... hehe. So I just used the good ole commandd-shift-4 and selected it. Oh well.

I do. I love the magnify feature. ITs so cool. Its very nice when lots of apps are running and the dock gets cramed and shrinks.

10.2 made the magnify feature really fast. Before it was unuable on my G4/400.

I have it set to magnify as well. I can't stand the dock without magnification now. I tried going back to w/o magnification but I always come back to the magnification. Here are the settings I use.

That's because I've lost all my notes in that program 3 TIMES!

I always used it in OS9 and continued when X came out but gave up after 10.1. Maybe it's been fixed but I'm afraid to go back now.

I use StickyBrain instead. More robust.

Not too exciting. I'm on a 12" iBook so my dock is usually on auto-hide and set to it's smallest size, but for this ss I've turned off auto-hide and made the dock as large as it will go.

Is that Final Cut, or final Cut Express? Eitherway, the icon don't follow apple guide lines Should look more like iMovie and iDVD.

Just unstuff the file, then drag the dividers to the document part of the dock, then they 'magically' float to the app side. how do they do that?
I checked into the package contents, nothing there.
i posted that tip a long time ago at macosxhints.com:
just add ".app" at the end of the foldername. now the dock thinks the folder is an application and move it to the left :-)
if you give the folder a customized divider-icon you have your devider...
